You own how many pairs of flip flops?

Zero. I have never owned a pair in my life, I have never even tried a pair on. I’m nearly as proud of that as I am at having never worn plaid pants.

Zero. I don’t like things between my toes. Female, 44.

StG

I think some of them are very cute, but I hate wearing them because the feeling of something between my toes freaks me out. I have one pair for the beach, and it’s the utilitarian kind that you can wash with the garden hose.

I have plenty of other cute summer footwear in my closet, so I think I’m okay. Sandals, mules, and (my favorite style ever) open toe slingbacks with kitten heels.

So female, mid-30s, 1 pair

I have 6 pairs…maybe another pair or two that I rarely wear. I like them because they’re cheap, can be comfortable, require no effort to slide on, and show off my toenail polish.

2 – a year old pair of Rainbows – I’ll get a new pair of the same when these wear out; and a hundred year old pair of Reefs

don’t let the location fools you, I lived in Florida and soaked up surf culture for 8 years

dude, 32, Atlanta via New Smyrna/Vero Beach/West Palm Beach/Gainesville, Florida

I have the sweetest pair of plaid pants. Wear em with my rainbows and a t-shirt all the time in the summer

I would just like to say that these jokes are really funny to me because, generally speaking, thongs are a style of panties here. What do Australians call underwear with the thin little strap that goes up the buttcrack?

Female, 41, and I own 2 pairs. I only wear them to the pool or to slip on quickly to run out and get the paper in the morning when the grass is all dewy.
I do not wear them out in public otherwise.
I find them rather uncomfortable (I hate that thing between my toes!), and I think they’re sloppy looking most of the time. Just my opinion, of course.
I have several pairs of nice sandals for summer, and plain white leather Keds that I wear a lot.

I’m with you there. I own one pair that I keep in my gym bag (keeps other people’s fungi off my tootsies), and that’s it.

However, I firmly believe you can never have too many pairs of sandals/slides. I currently have four pairs and I’m always on the lookout for more.

I’m 35 and female.

I don’t have any. 19, female. I’m kind of squicked out by bare feet, so I like shoes that have something to them.

Actually, that’s a lie. I have one pair of plastic ones that I wore in the shower last year when I lived in the dorms.

Female. 31. 0.

(Er, that’s age, and number of flip-flops, respectively.)

IMHO, flip-flops are good for two things: protecting your feet from wart germs when you take a shower at the gym or pool, and puttin’ boats in the water.

The showers at the gym I go to are admirably clean, and I don’t have a boat. Hence, no flip-flops.

22 year old male, 2 pairs. I grew up in Florida and will be returning soon so it may be time to stock up…

Female, 27, two pairs. A fantastic pair of brown platform ones that make me almost three inches taller than I should be, and a pair of white brocade ones with rhinestone flowers attached to the straps. These last are so pretty, I want to wear them every day, but actually have not worn them yet, since they don’t go with anything I own, and will get rather dirty. Their purchase was the only time in my life I bought shoes that didn’t go with clothing I already owned. I think I have an idea, though. A gauzy white shirt to wear with my long black gauzy skirt should complete the outfit nicely.

Male, 47. Zero pairs, and I’ve never owned or tried on any, either. I hate them, and I hate the sound they make as people walk down the street in them. They scrape on the ground, then smack into the sole of the foot. Scrape, smack, scrape, smack… just get some shoes!

Male, 19, and I have 5 pairs. I’m on the lookout for some black leather ones, though. (I have brown leather ones, but no black ones!)

Also, you don’t make noise if you can walk correctly in them. I can go silently up and down stairs, even.

Female, 21, and I have one pair of flip-flops that I never wear. Actually they aren’t even really mine, they used to be my sister’s and then they ended up in with my stuff and now I have them, apparently.

I don’t wear them because they hurt my feet if I try to walk in them for more than 10 minutes. I also hate them because they make it too easy for people to slip them off while in public places, like a classroom.

Female, 27 years old, almost 28.

Pairs of flipflops owned: 21.

Red, blue, pink, tan, beaded, sequined, flower-bedecked, black, green, navy, white, a different shade of pink, blue with white strap, pink with white strap, more with beads and other things.

I have pretty toes. :stuck_out_tongue:

Female, 24, effectively zero flip-flops.

I bought a pair recently after another pair of shoes decided I should have a hole in the back of my heel and I couldn’t wear shoes with anything in back. I can’t wear them, though, because the pain between my toes was worse than the one on my hee. $1.50 down the drain!

And add me to the list of females not down with shoes. Wide feet + no concern for style… Do love my Tevas, though.

Three of the same color and design:

One for home
One for work
One for formal wear

When a pair wears out, the new pair becomes the new formal wear pair, the old formal pair becomes the new work pair and the old work pair becomes the new everyday home pair. :stuck_out_tongue:

Female, 19. 6 pairs.

I love flip flops. From March/April to October I wear them almost exclusively (unless I need a more sturdy shoe for an activity or work). Once you break in a pair, they are awesome. I like they way they look (I think if you’re wearing a tshirt and jeans, flip flops look better than wearing sneakers, but just my opinion) and they’re cheap. Wearing some right now, and have been every day since it’s gotten warm here.
