You poor lonely conservative in the SDMB sea of liberals

It’s not, as far as I can tell. What bothers me is that more often that not it’s offered in the manner of sour grapes when an argument can’t be won. Every so often it’s offered up in frustration because a point made really was misunderstood. I can understand that frustration, of course. The sour grapes thing is so annoying. As one poster noted, it also seems to be characteristic of the conservative movement in the US, which I think they picked up when they started courting the Religious Right. My experience has been that most of them (RR) that I meet vocally resent an actually prized martyr staus they haven’t actually earned and is not real.

At the time I posted this, there are 48,491 registered Dopers.

That’s a big can of worms you opened up there, DMC.

Um, yeah, like that was my point, dude.

Make that ALL the states!

I may vote Lib this time. I rarely do, but I just can’t see myself voting for either of the guys that the “real” parties have offered up.

What’s a factor of ten when you want to make a point really bad?

 Who do I have to sleep with to get pigeonholed, too?

You’re a fiscal conservative and a moderate on social issues.

You need to realize that not all liberals think all conservatives are sheeple. It would be quite boring if all conservatives were alike, but luckily they’re not, nor was I trying to imply that the above list was a cabal of group-thinkers. Cherry picking is easy. I’m for small government, don’t want to take anyone’s guns away from them, and am not a big fan of legalized drugs (although to be fair, I don’t think there is another answer). I’m still a liberal, through and through.

Are you saying that you personally identify more with myself on issues than say Bricker?

Sense of humor still intact, thanks, I just don’t find milroyj as funny as you do (okay, at least not in the same way as you do). Not only did I notice your smilies, I had to specifically apply them, as copying and pasting the text including smiley to a text editor (which is why they are in alpha order, to those who wondered) drops the smiley like a rock. When you use two versions of the same basic phrase twice in a single thread, you can call it a “funny” all you want, but it’s still fitting here.

You were a mistake. You were just visible on the page where I grabbed a conservative’s user name and got put into the mix. I’m afraid we’re going to have to replace you with, um…

…ivylass, that’s it. She wears the label proudly (which she should, much as I do mine), which is refreshing from what I’ve read so far.

Watch it, or you go on the list, and I’ll give you the nickname “Mr. State’s Rights” just for spite.

Okay, putting Fenris in place of bodswood, just for the equilibrium. We were almost back down to four, thus requiring me to remove the smiley from Starving Artist’s posts.

I didn’t advocate genocide and will stand firm to this. It never happened. If I said that a whole people should be eliminated, that would be genocide. If I said that a whole country should be destroyed, that would be genocide. If I said that ten thousand people ought to be shot for no reason at all, that would be genocide.

I never did any of that. I advocated an agressive military policy, including deliberate bombings of nations which threaten us.

If that’s genocidal, any country which has ever bombed another country at war is genocidal.

Tell me how I am uninformed, and what I ought to know. This is an honest question and I want no name-calling or mockery in reply. What information should I be in posession of to qualify, at least, as an informed hater?

Yes, you are. Coming out can be tough, but celebrate it my friend.

Revisions made as appropriate thus far, with replacements made as needed. Heck, we can fit you in a T-shirt if you’d like, but they are pink.

I used to think the political discussions were fairly interesting around here, but gradually it’s gotten to the point where one hears the same small group mouthing the same fucking platitudes and accusations over and over and over…

Personally, I don’t give a rat’s ass who calls themselves a conservative and who calls themselves a liberal; I simply note who posts when they really have something to say, who argues a point with something resembling honesty, fact and logic, who posts because they mistakenly think this board is merely a forum for political advertising, and who posts simply because they feel compelled to pound home an opposing viewpoint, any opposing viewpoint, even if they actually have no compelling argument in opposition. I also, after a few years here, have developed fairly strong opinions on which regular posters have some degree of credibility and which don’t. There are at least ten people on the OP’s list, IMO, who are members of that latter category, but I can think of plenty on the liberal side as well (and then we have the case of somebody like PaulFitzroy, who would still be a flaming asshole no matter which side of the divide he happened to land on).

I think there are plenty of other people around here who are completely fed up with the constant, and really rather pointless, partisan sniping that goes on in this joint. Hey, though, don’t think I’m demanding that you stop. It’s your nickel, after all. Just don’t kid yourselves that anyone other a few people equally blind to honesty and reason as yourselves are giving your endless blathering any significant consideration.

Because the truth is anathema to most liberals?

Yeah. That’s a good question.

For the record, I’m a “centrist” (at least all the quicky online political tests I take tell me so) with right-leaning tendencies on some issues.

Well, of course you are.

Because when a “conservative” advocates gun control, (s)he’s generally perceived or painted as an *authoritarian * - taking the right away from a god-fearing (or not, depending on whether you’re ‘under God’) American to protect his/her family and preserve the integrity of the Union.

Or, as an ignorant furriner…

To be fair, we have a few liberals who seem to follow the same tactic you listed above, and many conservatives (the majority on my list, in fact) who don’t. The hopelessly blind are not an exclusive of either party, and no, I’m not implying that you are among that group.

This is not a pitting of conservatives in general, conservatives on this board, or conservative tactics. It’s simply pitting those who feel they are all alone, and even then, I’m only pitting that particular aspect of their posts.

That’s okay, I can work to get better at it. But you’ll always be a dumbass!

(See? I can be funny if I really try!)
