Ok, so you want to call out religion’s by denomination now? Ok, so here I am, a Southern Baptist. You want to bad mouth me and my religious views?
You say I am programmed by my “leaders”? May be the pit, but cite that I am controlled in anyway by my Church.
First, Jerry “Farawell” (It is actually Falwell, you troglodyte) and the like are promoting their personal beliefs, not the religious beliefs of all of the Southern Baptists in the world. I will openly say right now, as a Southern Baptist that Jerry Falwell is a hamster twat. I would imagine most Southern Baptist I know would think the same, if in a more polite, way about him.
Now, on to the other topics.
Evolution - Of course I believe in evolution. It is proven as a scientific principle and flat out obvious in the world. Now, how does that detract from my beliefs. My personal belief is God is omnipotent, that is all things are his. That means God created evolution; that is, evolution is one of the “tools” God used to create everything. Want to change my mind on this hypothesis, prove that God didn’t create evolution as a tool to create the world.
The Bible - Of course it not a literal translation written down from someone who say things happen. Hell, read the wonderful series of articles on the straight dope board about who wrote the bible. It is a beautiful piece of work. Where you are getting confused is in is this; we do not say it is a direct, literal translation of the events (somewhat like a court record). What we say it is a divine, inspired work. That is God led the writers in what they created. The same could be said for the translators. Read the introduction to the King James Bible. It is written by the team of scribes who translated it. They openly say they did the best job they could in translating, and they hope God led them to do the job right. They make no claims it is perfect.
And as for you talking down about the bible, and saying their are mistakes in it; have you ever read it and found one of these mistakes or discrepancies you speak of?
To sum it up, you wish to argue a point. You have no education that I can see about the point you are arguing. Have you studied my religion before you told me how it works? If you want to bad mouth the bible, you also take on Jewish beliefs as well as some of the Moslem beliefs. Did you realize that? Instead you rip into Christians. News flash, it isn’t Christians who made all the prophesy about Jesus, it was the Jewish religion. Christians are the ones who believe these prophecies have happened.
Simply put, your arguments are weak. You have studied nothing except some works from one Agnostic person. Someone told you to wait 10 or 15 years then speak on it. I will expand on that, spend 10 to 15 years studying religion - that includes all religions, then give us your opinion then.
