I saw that and was hoping someone would call him out on it. I can understand picking on the OPs without punctuation or capitalization at all, and maybe if he HAD to correct her, that was one thing… the dictionary cut and paste was really in bad form, though, IMO.
I were gonna starte writting my postes bad n prootest.
Don’t be. Now I can stop pounding my head against the wall. I never actually watched that show, but I think I remember a commercial with cuts of Bronson Pinchot? saying the word over and over. It became something of a catch phrase at the time, IIRC. Or, maybe just people I knew were saying “reedekulouss.”
Then don’t. But since you tried, I’ll do my level best to clean up for you.
While this is certainly the case in formal writing, it is not utterly necessary to properly attach adverbs to verbs in some cases. When common use has shown that meaning can be retained with a verb-adjective pairing (and such, I would argue, has been shown to be the case time and time again on this MB), and the setting is an informal one (as this forum on this MB), there need be no correction.
In short, this is not necessary in informal discource (such as here).
Oh, and by the way, if you’re looking to be the source of all things proper regarding writing here, you might want to leave out the final space between the quotation mark between quickly and rather. It is egregious and unnecessary;)
And you are, in point of fact, incorrect:)
I could go correcting your sigline
as it contains both a punctuation error and an error in quotation/apostrophe use, but that would just be pedantic and, more to the point, if people understand what you’re saying and you’re in an informal setting, there’s no need to be proper. I have been taught how to write and speak properly so that when I am in a situation where sich is required, I am able to do so. However, I also can tell when such is not required (viz the number of my posts with “y’all” in them).
Why is everyone being so snotty? I wasn’t trying to be a jerk, I just thought that, since everyone was going on about something completely different, I would point it out. Jeez!
As far as my sig is concerned, I got it from the screenplay of Barfly, as said by Mickey Rourke portraying Charles Bukowski. I have no indication as to its authenticity, verbatim quality, etc. I just liked it. Sue me.
If you are going to put yourself forward on this MB as an arbiter of grammar, punctuation, spelling etc., be prepared for someone to find something wrong with your post:D
ps.
Reading threads like that is fun, especially when you try and pull that “I’m a saint” shit on people. We have a search buton at the top, and at the bottom of your posts, too.
You can look at anything and subjectively say “that’s not a significant contribution” to anything and everything, whether it’s “valid” or not.
By your logic, Fingolfin(and no offense meant to Fingolfin) and John John are one of the two greatest posters in GD and CS history because they both have 1 000 + post counts. John John being a known troll and also a banned user.
Also, that originial sin gd thread you apparently started? Not even on the first(or second page) of threads with the highest replies. Yet the first highest is 1440, and the lowest on the first page is 300.
You are apparently a liar to boot.
(and now, I do realize that John John’s thread is only 500 replies long. I apologize for that mistake.
Um, hon…I think this isn’t the thread to bring some of that stuff up in. In which to bring some of this stuff up? Dangling stuff all over the place, sorry. But at LEAST I spelled it right. I think. Anyway, most of that is a seperate issue, and I think we ought to stick to the OP, okay?
