Are there any dopers who like to watch LPs on You Tube or elsewhere? I am anxiously awaiting the conclusion of Touhou Mother from NakaTelleli and I’ve enjoyed most everything from NintendoCapriSun. Just curious if anyone around here is into LPs, or if there are any LPers here.
I’ve watched a Let’s Play of a Super Mario World rom-hack called Kaizo Mario World. It was pretty insane, and probably one of the rare games that’s more fun to watch than to play! Truly sadistic stuff, as even with abusing save-states in the emulator, it would take the player 20+ minutes to finish some levels.
Not from youtube(though I’m sure it is there), but Paw’s “Let’s Play” of King’s Quest V is amazingly funny and entertaining.
Just a lot of fun to watch.
Which Let’s Play of Kaizo Mario World did you watch? I’d like to see a funny one.
I love Let’s Plays.
Watched the entire Ultrajman I Wanna Be The Guy playthrough (highly recommended for the entertaining meltdowns) as well as Ironsword. Also watched Deceased Crab play through Civilization–the original. I’ll catch a few old games that I never was able to play through too (I’m looking at you, Ninja Gaiden).
For Kaizo Mario World 1: Kaizo Mario World
For Kaizo Mario World 2: Kaizo Mario World 2
They’re collaborative efforts, so you may enjoy some folks’ attempts more than others, but the sheer finger-chewing frustration should be evident in all of them.
For Kaizou mario I’d also recommend Asshole mario 1 and Asshole mario 2 by some japanese guy. It’s not really a Let’s Play as such, as the only commentary is in form of frustrated or elated jumping. Unlike most LPs, he does it without using save states. It really makes the different traps much more entertaining, when you can’t just continue from 2 seconds ago.
My all time favourite is Planescape Torment on the SomethingAwful forums. The author adds his own contribution to the game’s already rich plot.
If you like DwarfFortress, check out Headshoots.
Gordon Freeman doesn’t talk much, but you can find out what he’s thinking in Freeman’s Mind. It’s a Half Life LP, and one of the best. It also spawned some variants for the Half Life expansions and Portal, but they aren’t as good as the original.
Medieval Total war 2 : A Scotsman in Egypt. A tale of two Scottish princes, who get the idea of being Kings of Egypt after a night of drinking. They set sail for the Mediterranean, and land an army to siege Alexandria.
My fave (with narrative!) Donkey Kong - Gameboy
“Lives are very important because I don’t have one of my own.”
I dunno, it’s not as much fun to me if I don’t hear those agonizing cries of pain from the LPer. In the LP of Kaizo Mario World 1 that I linked to, Proton Jon’s attempt at the 2nd level of the Special Zone was just a perfect concoction of painful and hilarious.
