Mariachi Vargas!
The Stones, though it’d have to be an enormous lottery win to afford them and I’m not sure I could, even then, justify spending that much on one band. So perhaps Brandi Carlisle and Simple Plan or one of my GF’s or daughter’s other favourite acts.
Help me out? I even searched Google, expecting to see a dead Bret Michaels or something…
The Black Keys
Absolutely, definitely Prince.
This.
And Queens of the Stone Age.
Hell, I’d hire these guys to sing just this one song for the fake check acceptance…and then jet everyone over to my house to play the whole damn playlist.
but I think it’s a joke related to the recent lottery winner who collected his check and was dead of (cyanide?) poisoning the next day.
Yeah, when I saw that, I realized that would be a tough one to beat.
As in, with Yoko Kanno? Because I would like to attend, please.
As a resident of Chicago-ish, and with the intent of going with something new-ish, I’d hire JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound.
(Or Hot Tuna, depends what I felt like that day.)
Ah, I do recall that very vaguely, but hadn’t realized it was a next-day death! What a coincidence!
I would hire Hugh Laurie, Stephen Frye and the entire cast of Big Bang Theory to do a production of the original Andrew Lloyd Webber & Alan Ayckbourn musical Jeeves.
NOT the readaptation of By Jeeves, but the original Jeeves.
They Might Be Giants, and/or The Roches.
Maybe The Rutles.
Los Lobos, who if not stars would be the greatest bar band in the world, based on the number of covers they have done. (Used to feel this way about the Dead).
The Seekers, definitely. Don’t even need to bribe them out of retirement - they’re planning another tour for this May.
Nickelback.
Holly Cole and Tom Waits, with a Spinal Tap intermission, a set by Catherine Ohara and Fred Willard doing “Midnight at the Oasis”, and the composer from “Life of Pi” and Danny Elfman trading off on musical filler throughout the evening. And at the end of the night, after the guests go home, we all sit around and talk and laugh and drink until Lyle Lovett comes in for a duet with KD Lang, and we all hug and buy a studio together.
It’s good to be rich.
Sarah Brightman.
Shonen Knife, opening for The Hives.
Duran Duran. I can’t believe anyone is considering any other band! Sheesh!
