young marriages

I see Peaches Geldof is getting married for the second time at age 21. Is she the youngest famous person to marry twice?

I’ll say no, since I’ve never heard of Peaches Geldof.

I don’t get this response at all, apart from just wanting to say you haven’t heard of a famous person. You’ll say no since you’ve never heard of her? Because you haven’t heard of her, you’re going to say “no”, without giving an example of someone who has married twice at 21 or younger? Wouldn’t the correct response be “I haven’t heard of her, not that it matters at all to the question, and I also don’t know the answer to the question”?

Lighten’ up, Francis. I was just being a little snarky about this Peaches person being labeled famous. No harm intended.

Lady Margaret Beaufort married the second time at the age of 12, and for the third time at the age of 18. If you’ve never heard of her, you might have heard of her only son, from the second marriage, who she had at the age of 13 when a widow. Her son was born Henry Tudor, 2nd Earl of Richmond, and later became King Henry VII of England.

I’m a little sad to say, I immediately thought of Britney Spears, whose marriage was annulled, and wed for the second time before she was 23.

(No, I didn’t know the age before I looked it up, but I did remember that she’d had two weddings while still reasonably young.)

Guess what, I’ve never heard of 90% of the “famous” people in America. That doesn’t mean they aren’t famous.

Peaches Geldof is Bob Geldof’s daughter, and is something like the Paris Hilton of Britain.

I was thinking Drew Barrymore, but it turns out she was only engaged 3 times and married once before 21. The second marriage was around about 26 or so (she was born in 1975).

I thought Peaches Browning might qualify, but it looks like she was granted only a separation, even with evidence like this.

(This is OT, but I remember that short, barefoot wedding to the bartender, and People Magazine labored, mightily, to make a BFD out of it with virtually NOTHING to work with. They managed to cobble together a romantic, hopeful wedding-day story, as if the public actually cared. As if they (People Mag) had to find SOMETHING - ANYTHING - to say about such a momentous occasion.)

I think some of the sons or daughters of famous stars of the past, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, that kind of celebrity, got married while in their teens. Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin? I’m sorry, can’t look it up right now. A lot of stars in days gone by seemed to get their start in show biz at a shockingly early age, no reason why they wouldn’t have early starter marriages, too.

Is there anything more worthless than being known as a “socialite?”

Yes, caring about them.

Generally you’re only known as a socialite if you’re young, good-looking and rich. I can think of a lot of things worth less than that.

I hadn’t heard of her either. Sounds like something from the dessert menu at a fancy restaurant. “Yes, I’ll have the Peaches Geldof and a coffee, please.”

I do know who Peaches Geldof is from all the hoopla about it when her mom died.
With a name like Peaches Honeyblossom I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised she would turn out to be a flakey person, but it’s still kind of disappointing that she is into the Scientology nonsense.
