Youngest Doper in 2021

It’s been more than half of mine.

It’s not just this thread though, it’s apparent from reading through the boards generally.

I was 16 when I joined in on the AOL message board version. 21 when the Board went live in its current(ish) incarnation. I’m 43 now.

More than half my life on the SDMB. Yikes. Kinda scary when you look at it that way…

That would be me!

Hey, how ya been?

Not too bad! How are you?

Doing well, got the family vaccinated, and glad to hear you’re still hanging out with us!

Glad to hear!

Perhaps I should give a backstory on how I discovered this board.

I was in class trying to find stories of awful/stupid classmates. As I went through the Google results, I found a thread on here dating back to September 2000, and, well, the rest is history.

As of now, I don’t post too much around here, as I’m more interested in sites like Newgrounds, but I like to pop in every now and again to see how y’all are doin’.

I’m in my late 30’s now and joined a couple years ago, but I’ve lurked on and off since i was a teen.

If I told you I was a teenager, would you believe me?

Yes, I would believe you were a teenager.

Wait, you’re older than your picture?! That explains a lot!

Yes, that was him. I often wonder how he’s doing. I’ll bet he’s more confident now (CEO of his own startup, and trying to decide which gorgeous PhD to propose to).

…hmmm, did he stop posting when he read my snarkiness in this thread?

.

Come back, @sta3535, I’ll be more supportive!

24 here! I used to check this site more often in college but haven’t had much time to read since I’ve started post-school-life. I can’t remember exactly how I found the Straight Dope. It was probably from a Google search that lead me to a Cecil answer, and I found the message board from there. It looks like I joined in 2015, but I was probably reading it before then.

I kinda like how the audience here is older. People are more experienced and replies are more in depth. Reddit and Twitter are much more toxic and don’t have a “pit” section lol

Yeah, I actually remember which column introduced me to the main site. It was this one, which I read in high school:

~Max

I remember that one! I wonder if the atmosphere in the centre of the cube’s faces would be dense enough to allow people to strap on wings and fly?
