Is there a 27-year-old Doper with a 1999 join date? Someone younger 99er who joined before (or in spite of) the minimum age requirement? Barring an easy answer like that, who is the youngest Doper that has been here the longest?
I’m not sure if I’m phrasing the question cogently (paging Zeldar?), so feel free to flesh out how to distinguish between a Doper who’s been here for five years and joined when they were 13 and a doper who’s been here for seven years but joined when they were 14.
To keep the question interesting, the only criteria I’d suggest is that placeholding accounts (accounts created by Doper parents for their kids) and inactive posters shouldn’t count (though it’s hard to distinguish between a lurker and an inactive account).
I get what you’re asking. You want a combination of age plus time having been here.
So I’ll start off: I’m 33 and was registered in 2003 (when I was 23), so I’m in the lead so far.
So to beat that, someone would have had to have been 23 (or younger) if they registered before me in 2003 (or 2002)…but they could beat me also if they were 24 and registered in, say, 2000 or 2001 (same with 25 and registering in 1999).
At least, I think it works that way.
Not sure on the math specifics, though…or how you have to combine them to work it out.
I can’t improve on your explanation of what you’re looking to find, nor can I offer any potential names beyond those who have responded to the public polls I started recently:
To answer the question your third paragraph specifically excluded, just because it’s a typical Doper Fun Fact: the youngest Doper to have posted (albeit by proxy) and lpngest a member of any ‘placeholder’ registrations is Bomb Bay Doors, the ten-year-old son of Airman Doors USAF and Ms Robyn (who may have been the first couple to meet through the SDMB). He was born on December 22, 2002, and made an initial post soon thereafter, with staff permission and his father’s assistance. His account was then locked down until he turns 13, just before Christmas 2015.
I just saw him at the Cincinnati Zoo yesterday and he’s sixteen and a half feet tall, with a penchant for bamboo. There’s no way he could successfully lurk. You don’t want to know what his daughter was doing with her tongue in the inside portion of the enclosure, either.
After a little more thought on this question I’m of the opinion that there are these criteria:
Doper must still be “active” (posted within the past year)
Doper was the youngest at the time of his/her first post
Doper made his/her first post on the earliest date
What else?
To search for that Doper – there can be only one – we’d need to locate the first posts and determine which of them were by still-active Dopers. Then we’d need to find which of that group was youngest at the time of that first post.
That process could proceed by going through the archives to find those earliest posts and by checking the profiles of those posters for the “still active” status.
From that resulting list the search for “most recent birth year” would help zoom in on the winner.
Well, I think we would have to make a determination about whether age is more important or length of activity. For instance is a 13 year old who registered in 2001 ranked above a 15 year old who registered in 1999?
If there is a 13 year old who registered in Mar 1999 and is still active then we definitely have a winner!
Maybe Rhythmdvl can clarify what is really being sought, but my interpretaion is that the currently active Doper who was the youngest at the time of his/her first post is who we’re after.
And is Registration the issue? Or is it First Post?
Well that could be someone who registered and posted today on their 13th birthday, but that doesn’t speak to the longevity aspect of the question. There has to be some formula to determine the winner. I’d suggest:
(Age at Registration/First Post) - (Years of Activity)
Lowest (possibly negative) number wins. So I’d be:
22-13=9
Idle Thoughts would be:
23-10=13
Speaker for the Dead would be our current leader with:
13-13=0
A hypothetical 13 year old in 1999 would be:
13-14= -1
You could use decimal numbers to fine tune things. I registered in April 2000 and I was ~22.25 years at the time so as of this month I’d be closer to:
