When you only look at your digital music collection however you define that (rather than CDs/tapes/records/8-tracks and also do not include favorites on streaming music you don’t own), and by basing your liking solely by which bands you have the most songs by in your collection, what are your ten favorite Canadian bands?
Here’s a list, but you probably know other bands not on it, which is obviously fine - oh, and FYI, the Bush on that list is from the 70s, not the 90s
Please list them in descending order:
[ul]
[li]Our Lady Peace[/li][li]Moist[/li][li]Nickelback[/li][li]Jackalope[/li][li]Thousand Foot Krutch[/li][li]Tegan and Sara[/li][li]Death From Above 1979[/li][li]Controller.Controller[/li][li]Finger Eleven[/li][li]Theory of a Deadman[/li][/ul]
Any surprises? I was shocked to have more Tegan and Sarah and Theory of a Deadman than The Zolas and Econoline Crush
Unless I’ve missed some:
[ul]
[li]Barenaked Ladies[/li][li]New Pornographers[/li][li]Ron Sexsmith[/li][li]Bruce Cockburn[/li][li]Hokus Pick[/li][li] ________(and now a gap before the one-album wonders)[/li][li]Sarah McLachlan[/li][li]Arcade Fire[/li][li]Alanis Morissette[/li][li]Odds[/li][/ul]
Rush
Guess Who
Gordon Lightfoot
Neil Young
Irish Rovers (I think they count as Canadian)
Bryan Adams
The Band (gotta overlook Kevin Helm; still, mostly Canadian)
Pursuit of Happiness
Barenaked Ladies
Saga
It appears that I do not actually own any albums by Canadian bands (there are a few stray songs by the Guess Who and Bryan Adams that sneaked into my music library).
I may need to add Canadian surf rock music to my collection (Spain and Finland are already represented). Intriguingly, there is an Ottawa band called The Reverb Syndicate, which Wikipedia describes as “an almost exclusively instrumental “Spy-Fi” surf band from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada who have been playing since 2006. Their music is of “soundtracks to 1960s spy films that don’t exist”.”
Bracketed quantities are the number of songs reported by iTunes (I have music in other libraries and services that would change these).
These are artists that I have more than 50 songs in iTunes.
Sarah McLachlan (160)
Matthew Good (87) / Matthew Good Band (62)
Delerium (121)
David Usher (36) / Moist (69)
Jann Arden (101)

Naomi Striemer (83)
Our Lady Peace (79)
City & Colour (68)
Colin James (66)
Loreena McKennitt (57)
The list below is the rest of the Canadian contingent with at least 10 songs or 1 full album present (there are a couple of artists missing, e.g. Tegan and Sara, where I have more elsewhere but only one track on iTunes).

Sorry, I wasn’t clear—by “one-album wonder” I meant bands that I only had one album by.
But, my one album by the Odds is Nest, which I like quite a bit; but I’ve listened to one or two others and didn’t like them enough at the time to hold onto them.
1 Neil Young and Crazy Horse
2 Joni Mitchell with anyone else esp Jaco Pastorius
3 The Band
4 Neil Young and Buffalo Springfield
5 Neil Young and CSNY
6 Neil Young and the Squires
7 Neil Young and the Shocking Pinks
