I consider myself pretty easy going. I generally try to see all sides of an issue and spread my odd brand of sweetness and light.

But every once in a while I surprise myself with the amount of passion that can be aroused in me on an issue. A few of them I know about. Abortion, I’m vehemently pro-choice. Freedom of religion is another one I will hiss and spit about.

Just a few minutes ago I discovered that spousal/SO abuse is another one. sailor mentioned that he (paraphrase) guessed women liked being abused. I wrote and posted one of the more pissy posts I can ever recall.

Its amazing me that I’m still fairly horrified about such a casual attitude. Hot button found.

Other issues I count as important and will automatically discuss/correct ignroance as I go along, but not many upset me to the point of incoherance.

So anyway, what are the Teeming Millions’ blood boiling issues?

Child Abuse, rape and spousal abuse.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Somewhat vaguer but no less boil-rific for me: people who just know so strongly what is best for someone that they’re perfectly willing to run roughshod over that someone’s consent. That the sheer importance of that consent doesn’t even enter into their headspace. And when that sort of proud disregard results in real harm and hurt, red steam tends to shoot out of my pores.

I’m always good for a diatribe on how Republicans talk about “options” for Social Security, but the whole point is to defeat the purpose - to provide for people who reach old age and found they had invested their savings poorly.

Also: Psychiatric forced treatment. Just hint that someone (the homeless, for instance) would benefit from being involuntarily psychiatrized and I’m on my podium.
