Your cigarette brand?

The realization that I was fiending for a unknown number of chemicals is why I switched to Spirits. That, and the addition of the fire safety chemical that makes most cigarettes taste like ass and all cigarettes taste worse. I still* jump back and forth between the two brands but over the last three or four years Camel have started tasting more like chemicals than like tobacco to me. I started smoking Camel in middle school and always saw myself as growing up to be a camel smoker, I collect Camel memorabilia (when I run across it)… But I smoke Spirits, mostly.

*For all intents and purposes I quit smoking last year, but sometimes I lose my will-power while I drink and walk down to the 7-11 so I can JUST STOP THINKING ABOUT IT and get on with my night.

What a thread! 18 months smoke free for me today! I’m sooo glad I quit. Used to smoke the GPC Light 100s for years, though. They were pretty much the same as Marlboro Light 100s, so those would work when the store didn’t have GPCs. Lots of different brands early on in my smoking history.

During my brief smoking sojourn I smoked filterless Camels or rolled my own using Drum. I only smoked a few per day. I just couldn’t get into filtered cigarettes.

I smoke about 2 cigs per week, mostly when I’m drinking or to perk me up when I’m driving. I prefer to roll my own, but I don’t like really fine cut tobaccos like Bali Shag or Drum, so I usually go for Bugler (cheap) or American Spirit (good, but comes with really shitty papers). As far as rolled cigs I go for Luckies or Camels (non-filtered).

Filtered cigarettes don’t do it for me with the exception of Gauloises Blondes (the blue pack). You can’t get them in the US anymore (to my knowledge), but I’ll sometimes pick up a few packs if I’m abroad.

Marlboro lights. Golden Virginia light for those hand-rolling moments. Forgot to say why: because that’s what everyone smoked when I started, including the person I was trying to impress at the time (not by smoking in particular, you understand. Just in general). I smoked Benson and Hedges very briefly, and then realised they were foul.

A classy way to commit suicide, according to Kurt Vonnegut.

First pack of smokes I ever bought was Vantage. It was the brand my old man smoked for as long as I could remember, so it was the only brand my dumb 19-year-old brain could think of as I looked the gas station guy in the eye.

Then I moved on to primarily Marlboro Lights for the next 13 years, with a few packs of Ultra Lights and Reds tossed in, and the occasional box of Camels. I’d even get a pack of Vantage once in a while for old time’s sake. Do they even make Vantage anymore?

Been smoke-free for three years. Quitting was a wedding gift for my wife.

I have only ever smoked clove cigarettes. Even after smoking them for a few years, I still couldn’t smoke regular cigarettes, as regulars make my throat close up. Also, regulars taste frelling disgusting. I’m not allergic to anything that I’m aware of, but apparantly there’s something in regular, american cigarettes that just kill me, something that isn’t in either cloves or pipe tobacco or cigars. (I’ve done the cigar and pipe thing for fun, but enh. Not enjoyable for me) Clove smokes, on the other hand, taste good. 'nuf said.

So my brand would currently be Djarum, since they seem to be the only brand available locally that bothered to relabel them ‘cigars’ so that they can be sold in the U.S. after last year’s legislation.

Will be mine for my sweetie, too. Great idea!

I’m laughing at the poll results. I first started on Salems, then moved on to Camels. Last year I had a Salem for the first time in a decade, and it was horrific.

She loved it. But might I suggest holding off on the quitting until *after *the honeymoon? I tried quitting while we were *on *the honeymoon, and by day 2 she told me to go buy a pack of smokes.

Your honeymoon is the last place you want to be grump because your ass is fiending for a square.

Even in this day and age, I run into people who insist that smoking does not cause lung cancer. Without exception, they’re always smokers, too.

One of two Lucky Strikers here.

Dunhills, or any sort of similar all-Virginia(?) RYO concoction. Was a bit of a fan of Drum, back in the day. I do like the American Spirit Periques, but–as with all American Spirits–they are packed so incredibly tight as to verge on being unsmokable. Seriously–you are selling your product to smokers, a group not known for their exceptional lung strength. Packing it tight makes it burn longer, sure, but you do have to have some balance, eh?

Should quit again, of course, but 1-2 a day seems to help keep me sane for now.

I started with Bensons, then rolled my own for several years (Drum), then settled onto Marlboro Lights - or Marlboro Gold as you have to call them in the UK now. Bensons taste like shit to me now.

I tend to whore around when it comes to cigarettes. I started with Marlboro Reds, supplemented by whatever my friends could steal from their parents, which were usually Kents or Benson and Hedges 100’s. Then I had a Winston phase, then switched to Camel filters mostly for the free swag.

My main brand now is the revived L&M Reds. Their about a dollar cheaper per pack, and just about the same as Marlboro 27’s, which is my backup brand. I think the current L&M’s are the same as the revived Chesterfield filters that were discontinued a few years ago.

I started with Misty’s. Then, for a while, I smoked Camel Menthols… then I found Marlboro Smooths and was with them for a while until I quit.

My preferred brand is Marlboro Lights 100’s, but since the price per carton of those shot up so high I switched to Pall Mall Blue 100’s. Cheaper, and once you get used to them they’re really just as good.

Smoked those (filtered) a lot in college, when I could slap down a ten and get 4 packs. Now they only make the little unfiltered ones, which are nice and strong, but I hate spitting bits of tobacco out of my mouth.

Now Parliaments - pretty much the only one that tastes like a cigarette to me and satisfies my craving. Lights and Ultra Lights of every brand taste like air to me.

Quitting is easy, I’ve done it 5 or 6 times.

Back when I used to smoke, I tried them all. Especially when they were on sale. Because I was cheap and needed to buy dope.

But when I was flush, I bought Marlboro.
