Your current first-world problems

Finally got it on 8/31/22.

Wow. That’s even worse than the reports I’d read had suggested, in terms of delays.

We count ourselves quite lucky that our old car (a 1998 Civic) died when it did: late 2020. 6 months later and we could not have replaced it.

There are day-one reservation holders (7/13/20) that still haven’t received theirs.

I’m developing an addiction to Productivity YouTube.

July 18th, the drain on my upstairs shower failed. Flooded the downstairs took out a bunch of dry wall and the entire floor destroyed.

My mother died 10/21, bye mom. It was expected, and mom had things in order. Still was two weeks away from work for me because of the things that need to be done. Not to be glib, but death is way complicated.

I had leased an office near my moms house so I could better help her out. I live 100 miles away from her house. I thought I could spend about 1/2 of my time at least closer. I was to move in 11/4. No need for that now. Good bye deposit.

10/31, a different drain line clogged and flooded the downstairs again. NO drain company/plumber would come to check it out. Too busy, not enough help/backed up. Yeah, I know backed up. So, no plumbing at our house at ALL. No water, no drain. We’ve been peeing in the yard and using a neighbors house a 1/4 mile away for more serious ummm… business.

I’m slowly sorting it out. We now have one functioning bathroom and a laundry room and kitchen on line. Not sure what is up with the other bathroom and not worrying about it right now. We leave in two days to go visit my Wifes family1200 miles away, but I still have a million things to do. I really have to go though, I missed the last couple of visits.

When we had a well problem and no water, we used water from our rainbarrels to flush our toilets and went to my gf’s aunt’s cat-house to shower.

Cat-house, you ask. My gf’s aunt is a crazy cat lady. She helps out at a cat shelter and has a few cats in her home. She owns a second home she used to rent out, but now it is where she houses cats in need of homes.

She has a cleaning lady in weekly and the litter boxes are addressed twice daily. We would drive over and shower. The house is meticulously clean and would be a nice place to live, if not for all the cats.

Yeah. If it wasn’t a drain problem, I have a stream I could get water out of to flush. A clogged main line drain removes that option. What I did for a week was warm a bit of water on the stove and do a bird bath. I even washed my hair. I would go outside (in 30 degree weather) with a water bottle to rinse it.

We are sort of back to normal around here now. Still have a tub not draining though.

These are real problems. I hope things turn around soon for you.

Thanks. I guess I consider them first world problems because I do still have shelter/warmth, food and funds. Water could be bought, I have good transport as well.

I like to get a cup of coffee on my way to work (between 9:30 and 10:00 pm), and no Starbucks are open on my travel path. So I stop at Dutch Bros. They don’t actually brew coffee there (which would enable them to just pour it and send me on my merry way). I have to order an Americano, which they have to make while I wait. It’s not the weight that I am in so much is the fact that the kid at the window apparently is required to try to make chitchat with me.

I don’t wish to be rude, but I also don’t wish to make chitchat.

*It’s not so much the wait that I mind so much as

That’s how I type when I’m pre-caffeinated, too. In addition, I would hate to have to endure youngsters trying to cheerfully chit-chat with me when I’m pre-caffeinated.

There is a Dutch Bros on my way to work, it’s been open a bit over a year. I haven’t stopped by yet, but I just looked at their online menu and what do you know they don’t have simple brewed coffee. Guess I won’t be stopping by anytime soon.

Yesterday at the grocery store, I was trying to open a plastic produce bag. I spent several minutes at it until I figured out the the labels on the bags had bee misprinted. The printing had gotten unsynchronized with the roll of bags such that the “Open this end” label was just enough off from where you tear it off that it was on the wrong end of the bag.

Very annoying, and very much a first world problem.

It’s 3 p.m. and I desperately want to lie down and take a nap. It’s kind of hard to do at work.

Ha! Yeah, I miss the “good old days” of working from home during the pandemic and blocking my calendar for nap time in the afternoon. In fairness to me, I more than made up for that time by being able to work at all hours when necessary.

I worked from home for a year and a half during the pandemic, and yeah, it was nice to go and lie down for an hour or so in the early afternoon. I always took my phone with me so I could tell if someone was emailing me from work.

Today’s first-world problem: we can’t drive up the Great Highway in San Francisco anymore when we travel to Sonoma County for a vacation. It’s closed off to through traffic now, so that the locals can use the road for walking and biking. It used to be a nice scenic little part of our drive that I loved, but now we have to take 19th Street instead (shudder).

I’ve decided to start using my Ubuntu desktop with my bluetooth headphones

Ubuntu can’t find the headphones!

Kernel level bug, I have to use the headphone cord until the bug is patched!

The suffering never ends!

I found that funny.
(:honeybee:)

I want a nap too. But I have to wait for my cleaning lady to finish up and leave. That seems like a first world problem.
