I don’t recall being specifically told this, but I somehow picked up the notion that paper towels and ziplock bags are insanely expensive. Even though I’ve been buying my own paper towels and sandwich bags for nearly 15 years now, I still feel as if I’m getting away with a transgression every time I use either of them.
My ma used to say "If you kids don’t shut up, I’ll separate you!! … Your head from your body?!!
Or my personal favorite, that still prevents me from walking into the bathroom while chewing anything,
“If you eat in the bathroom, the devil is with you”
eeeeeeeeeewww!
Mother said, “If you eat fruit seeds, the plants will grow out of your nose!”
She also told me that this had happened once and that she had to pull the vine out of, you guessed it! My nose!
Also, eating sugar straight out of the bag would give you worms.
As a passenger in a vehicle, my dad always told me that if I were to move the gearshift while the engine was off, the car would explode.
In retrospect, I think he did this to scare me out of putting the car in gear when he stopped the car to get gas/etc. I guess the fear is better than the possibility of my dad starting his car in second gear or something.
