Your favorite LP's That Never Made it To CD

Erato: Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra of Budapest: Janos Rolla (soloist/director): Hungarian Dances: Brahms

(As an aside, the one thing I will not miss about compact discs is when you try to pick up a big stack of them with one hand, and if any one of them is even slightly out of alignment, the whole stack leaps out of your hand like a plastic rainbow and spills all over the floor.)

Steve Miller’s Recall The Beginning…A Journey From Eden might as well be on the list. There was a second-party CD release, but it’s ridiculoulsly over-priced and sounds terrible. For those who haven’t heard it, the album sits in between his blues-laden stuff and the AM radio hits that were to come. It’s available as a download and I would really recommend it to fans of his earlier work.

And I love her version of “Lush Life”. That EP is somewhere in my back bedroom…

Someone has mp3s of Buckingham-Nicks tracks online. I googled 'em and downloaded 'em years ago. They still hold up.
Joan Armatrading’s “Secret Secrets” album was directed (/produced?) by Joe Jackson, and he also played piano, and Mark Knopfler played guitar. Very jazzy, very cool. And it had a short release on CD, then went out of print for some reason. i found a copy in a used CD store. And I buy it on vinyl when I can.

I couldn’t agree more. The accoustic/orchestral second side is very beautiful.

Legends of the Lost and Found: Harry Chapin.

An Evening with Dando Shaft: Dando Shaft.

I just found her music (it’s new to me) about a year ago, boy did she have talent. I have her Sing Children Sing, Earth Mother

So far those are the only two release. I love the track “My Soul” off the album

Emmylou Harris has a few albums that never got released on CD. Evangeline, *Cimarron *both have some great material.
Any Emmylou fan needs these two in their collection.

It’s a general rule that every time music shifts format, you lose 75% of the recordings. 3/4 of the music issued on 78 rpm discs never made it to LP. Same again for the transition from LP to CD. My personal hole in the soul is all the stuff the Dave Brubeck Quartet put out. Very little of it is available in digital format.

“Dando Shaft” - Man what a name for a group!

So I just had to google it and lo and behold they are listenable on Pandora.

Thanks for the mention and the link to some great sounding folk music!

Ben Webster, Ballads. Maybe it’s just out of print at the moment, maybe the label feels that the important cuts are already duplicated on other compilations. But the live version of “Chelsea Bridge” that’s out there just doesn’t compare to the smokin’ studio version I remember.

(Note: “Ben Webster: Ballads” is not the same album as “Ben Webster Plays Ballads.” The former is 2-disc, the latter one.

It’s good to come across another fan. I bought all her albums on vinyl when they first came out. As Everything Changes hasn’t been reissued, where did you come across ‘My Soul’?
