Those who name their daughters Asa may be trying for the Scandinavian name Åsa - which is pronounced something like o-sah or ou-sah. Å is a different vowel altogether from A.
My favorite name for a boy is Alexander, with Sasha as a nickname. Unfortunately my husband doesn’t like it much. Favorite name for a girl is Tatjana. The husband unit isn’t too fond of that either, but he loves Tanja, so if we had a girl we were going to name her that as a compromise. As it turns out we had two boys, and are finished with our family now, so I guess I’ll have to start brainwashing the little flodnaks to name our grandchildren Alexander and Tatjana.
No, I’m not Russian, I just like some of the names. I also generally like traditional names more than recently invented ones. Our boys are named Kenneth and Robert.
I love Russian sounding names, too. Actually, the more vaguely could be Russian/Greek/other European names. My son is named Nicholas, and I’ve thought about naming the next Alexander, but it sounds a little too much like I’m trying to start a dynasty. I also love the name Tatiania, I know a little Mexican/German/Dutch girl with that name and it fits her perfectly.
I also love what my husband calls “please beat me up” names for boys: Owen, Elliot, Auden. Hmmm…maybe I could use them for a girl? If Taylor and Hunter can be girl names why not?
My husband and I have already picked out what we’re going to use, even though we still have a year or two before we start working on kids:
Madeleine Olivia for a girl
Nathaniel James for a boy
I also love the names Sophia & Helen.
For boys, William, Timothy, Paul, and Samuel. Justin’s nice, too.
I never thought of Elliott as a “beat me up” name – I only know one guy with that name, though, and he’s 6’4 and ripped, so I guess that’s the perception I have of that name.
Never, I mean never, reveal possible baby names! My cousin just had a baby, and named her the exact same name her best friend had picked out…!!
Anyway …
Hey, I’ve liked the name Madison ever since Splash. And I’ve got a friend who named her girl Addison. I don’t get that one.
Names I like, that I can give away since they’re unusable by me or have been said here before, are Katharine (spelled Ms. Hepburn style), Kira (my own nickname in high school), Kaitlin, and Kayla (friend of mine took it). I like the name Jared very much for a boy.
Too true. Many years ago when my sister and I were both trying to start families, I told her if I had a daughter I’d name her Kendra, after a mutual childhood friend of ours.
My sister promptly got pregnant, had a girl, and named her Kendra.
As it turned out, I wasn’t able to have kids, so maybe it’s just as well. So be it.
I was also wondering about the name Enjoli. i remember the commercials from the late 70’s into the 80’s
I had a friend named Jamaica Moon (first and middle names) Apparently conceived under one.
I like Ingrid and Erika for girls, Mathias for a boy.
