Your Favorite Name

Kathrynne? What, Katherine wasn’t dignified enough? What are you going to shorten it to, Keight? Jeez…Kathrynne. Sounds like someone who I’d pay to give my fiance a lap dance. A misspelled name sucks, folks. Think of how many times they’re going to have to spell it on the phone to people. That gets old fast.

I’ve always been one for simple elegance, myself.

Female: Audrey, Helen, Julia, Christine, Lauren, Elaine, Jane, Janet

Male: Holden, Daniel, Brian, Lucas, James, David, Kevin

Female: Shauna
Male: Noah

Some uncommon ones (these are classmates of mine):
Poojah, Ajlal, Baek (silent A), Ursula, Quang (pronounced Wang), Mercedes Benz, Bentley Hoofnagle, Zhixi (zur’she), Xixi (she-she), Lirra, Yury, and others.

Now, my faves:

Guy: Rob, Drew, Jeff.
Girl: Amy, Sarah, Abby.

My children will be named(if I ever have any) Colorado and Utah for the two boys and the girl will be called Mercury, if the wife agrees( if I ever have one).
I know a Crystal Logic, Logic being her last name.

My girlfriend insists that she went to school with a girl named Tara Hyman. Goddamned cruelest parents in the world.

MR

Outside of my children’s names (Carsten, boy and Teagan, girl) I 've always been partial to:

Boys: Dermot, Oliver, Sebastian, Julian, Robert,
Girls: Sophie, Elizabeth, Emma, Ursala, Sigourne
( pronouced, Zig-unr-na) and Imogene.

I knew a guy named Dallas at my old college. We made a rather tongue-in-cheek pact that if we had any daughters we’d both name them Abilene or Amarillo, after the cities in Texas. I might actually do it though. Those are pretty words. I know that “amarillo” means “yellow” in Spanish, but that shouldn’t give a girl any problems.
As for guys, hmmm…no idea.

I looked it up, figuring it had to have appeared before.

** Where did these names come from?

My son’s name is Kieran. I will warn you that, if you decide to use it in the future, people will think you are saying “Karen,” and ask why he has a girl’s name. ARGH!!

Actually, Asa has multiple pronounciations. That is one, but my mother has a female friend named Asa where it’s pronounced with the “a” like the “ou” in house.

My voice teacher’s daughter’s name is Ara (pronounced "Are-ah). I love it.

Female names: Paige, Lyndsey, Isabelle or Isabella.
Male names: Jared, Derick, Scott, Alexander

I like more unusual names or really Welsh, Scottish, or Irish names as well.

November Rain, great song… never thought of it that way…
btw if you like GNR, check out my website.

My sister had a dog named Asa once… pronounced Ace-uh

My best friend and her boyfriend already have names picked out for any children they may have in the future, provided they only have boys. Considering they are seventeen and have been dating less than one full year, I think that is sick. THey’ve decided on Ezekiel and Lars, of all things. Ezekiel ebcause “it sounds cool” and Lars after the drummer in Metallica.

Another friend of mine is planning on naming his firstborn son Trixie and wants to name his daughter Zappa.

My personal favorites:

Girls: Cheyenne, Austin, Dakota, Dallas

Boys: Greg (my firstborn son WILL be named Greg no matter what his father says, I promised myself this after an acquaintance named Greg passed away last year), Jasper, Harvey, Dallas (versatile!)

I love my name, it’s not so out there that I was ridiculed as a child because of it, but yet it’s just a little different, so I don’t know 15 other people with the same name. I have yet to actually meet, face to face, another Mishell. To me, this is a good thing.

Sure, having to spell it all the time can be a pain, but you get used to it and I think it’s worth it.

Now, I do have to agree that a name spelled with five a’s, six e’s and a silent q pronounced “Steve” is a bit too much.

Anyway, as to the OP, on the offchance I ever find a man I can stand who isn’t gay and I wind up procreating, names I like:

Lourdes
Viola
Jayne
Chloe
Charles
Stephen
Michael
James
David

Seyjal? There’s a girl in my class named Sejal

I have already had, and named, all the kids I want [three in eleven months]. I guess I have something for tagging four names together [each kid has been named after uncle or aunt, close friend. The two dachshunds also have four names: sugarladysweetcakes and honeybunnysweetiepie.

HOWEVER: I wasn’t able to use the three names that I adore because the limit was three names plus family name…sigh.
I absolutely love Yasmine [Yahzmean] and Mbaye [Umbye] West African names, but the all time favorite is Zachariah - a name that sounds great when you whisper or shout it out.

I have always liked the name Amber for a girl and the names Jarrod and Zachary for boys. You may use them if you wish.

I love the name John. I love the meaning(gift from God)and the simplicity. I love Morag (meaning the sun) for female. When pronounced properly it is a lovely name.

The coolest name of all time is…Antonio Banderas!!

My favorate name for a boy is Zach.

My favorate name for a girl is Angela.

Simple, beautiful, classic.

Right. “Son of Matthew”- the perfect name for one’s daughter.
