Your favorite Star Wars film

Yes, and the only movie he really has a large part in is TPM, where the standard comic relief guy, C3PO, is reduced to a cameo.

No surprise that *The Empire Strikes Back *is leading the pack by a large margin. It’s the only decent film in the bunch.

ESB. I can only imagine what the trilogy would have been like had Kershner directed all of them. He’s one with the Force now. RIP buddy.

How could it be the only decent one, when it depends on the original? You can call it the best third of the original trilogy arc if you like.

Well the original Star Wars was kind of a game-changer wrt movie SF. Really, you can pretty neatly divide movie SF into pre-Star Wars and post Star Wars in terms of imagery and style. You can argue whether or not that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but there’s no denying the impact: the movie hit like a ton of bricks.

That said, if I’m looking at my DVD collection the one I will want to watch is is Revenge of the Sith. Great spectacle, a tragic story set on a convincing backdrop of galactic conflict. Anakin’s conversion to Darth Vader could have been handled a lot better, but damn, for a fun watch, that’s the one.

I say we hang, draw and quarter him, then stone the remains to be sure.

At least noone said “Starwars Christmas Special”

That would be ridiculous…

My favorite was that direct to video Ewok special.

Wilford Brimley FTW!!

You’re presuming a movie needs to be decent in order to garner a sequel.

Empire. Star Wars (ANH) is a close second, it gets a lot of oomph for starting it all, of course. Empire is a little bit better - better directed, better story, better technology with the effects.

It was direct to TV, not direct to video, and there were TWO of them!

I had to pick A New Hope simply because it did stand as a story all on its own from beginning to end. I realize that’s 'cause lucas wanted to tell something completely and didn’t know if anyone would want to watch the next 2, little did he know this would be a smash hit, but still, that one stands by itself, doesn’t need anything else to finish it. A masterpiece that jump-started a legend!

And that would be silly, as proven by that utterly crap Ewok and dandelion-headed-small-child film which almost immediately got a sequel.

I *really *liked them as a child. I refuse to watch them again to realize fully just how awful they really are. I have no doubts.

I have watched the Christmas Special at least three times. I think that makes me a masochist.

As for favorite? Star Wars (no revisionist New Hope crap for me) followed by RoTJ.

I will say that I fully realize that Empire is the BEST of the set, but I tend to have happy movies as my ‘favorites.’ I would say that it’s a very close third. Phantom Menace is a very very distant fourth.

I only acknowledge Phantom Menace - sadly, the rest of the “prequels” never came to fruition in my universe.
