Signed, Sealed, Delivered is one of my favorite songs of all time. I also love I Was Made to Love Her, and As (and Love’s in Need of Love Today, Sir Duke, I Wish, Pastime Paradise, Knocks Me Off My Feet–I loved Songs In the Key of Life).
Stevie also did my favorite Beatles cover of all time, We Can Work It Out , which has a freakin’ awesome harmonica solo and Steve-tastic vocals.
I really can’t think of a Stevie Wonder song that I don’t like. “Superstition” held the #1 spot in my mind for a long, long time… until I found this MP3 of a live rendition of “Overjoyed”.
Friggin’ fantastic. The man’s voice did things that I didn’t know human voices could do, and he made it all sound effortless. Much to my chagrin, I somehow lost the file of the live version over a year ago.
I still miss it…
I think “Overjoyed” is an incredible vocal performance and the chord progression is insane…but it works. “I just called” is too sappy for my taste, OTOH. Regardless of your favorite tune, you’ve got to hand it to Stevie for his technical ability.
I don’t know how you can pick a favorite Stevie Wonder song, but I loved “Isn’t She Lovely” way back when and I loved it more after my daughter was born, 14 years ago this Thursday.
She’s a beautiful girl and it’s a beautiful song. Happy birthday, sweetheart.
