I’ve eschewed a North American bias in my selections-for kicks I put on some less obvious choices. Hope I didn’t leave off anything obvious.

The NASCAR folks are gonna hunt you down.
Why should they? It’s not really a team sport since the only people on the field of play (i.e., the racing track) are the individual drivers. By that same logic, horse-racing should also be included.
Baseball. There is no other sport.
Paintball as a spectator team sport? I’ve seen this once on ESPN (at something like 3:00 PM on a weekday) and I wasn’t all that impressed with how well it worked.
Like I said I originally was only going to put the Big Four NA team sports. I’ve seen enough paintball games on TV (alas only speedball which is boring) that I tossed it on there. Consider yourself lucky that I decided to leave polo off.
Baseball.
I voted for baseball, but basketball came close. With good seats, a pro basketball game is a damned exciting event to behold, since you’re right on top of the action, and the pace is excellent. I’ve always had a lot of fun at basketball games.
I’m not much of a basketball fan, but some years ago I somehow wound up in the fourth row of a Denver-Dallas game. It was amazing. Two teams fighting it out for the worst in the league, and the speed, coordination and athleticism was incredible. I’ll always remember it.
I still don’t much like basketball, though.
Hockey for me. There are so many things that occur outside of the views of the camera, it was almost impossible for me to watch it on TV (when I had one). Huge, open ice hits that happen away from the puck, fights in the corners, seeing a play come together thanks to a skater coming in late, etc.
I’m not surprised baseball is the current leader (Summer sport, outdoors, easy to track as the flow of the game has a certain cadence), but I am surprised to see football #2. It’s a much, much better sport to watch on tv. You’re not freezing your ass off, you don’t have to pay $9 for a beer, and you can track all your fantasy stats in the comfort of your home!
In person, baseball hands down. On TV, football (USA) gives it more of a run for the money, but I’d still have to go w/baseball there, too.
Baseball? Really? Wow, I have never been so bored as I was the one time I went to Fenway Park. It was a high scoring game (something like 12-7 when we left during the 7th inning stretch) yet it seemed like every ball was a flyball caught very easily by the centerfielder.
Soccer, meanwhile, is just about the only sport where a 0-0 or 1-0 game can be more exciting than goals galore.
My first (of two) Fenway games ended with a walkoff Johnny Damon home run. I’ve never been in a venue full of that much energy as Fenway was at that moment (and got to see myself jumping up and down like a fool on Sportscenter, as the ball landed 20 rows right in front of me).
I really only watch one team sport: American Football.
It is close to being the only sport I watch too - although I may watch women’s tennis if it is on, and (if it could be called a sport) I will sometimes watch 9 ball.
Tough choice between American football and baseball, and I watch both depending on the season. But given a choice I’d probably choose baseball. I’m actually surprised to see it beating football (so far).
I am too. I know a few people who watch it, but not many. No doubt a lot of that has to do with the fact that I don’t enjoy it myself - if I did, perhaps I would be hanging out with others who do as well.
I wish I could vote for baseball a million times.
Nothing beats it!
Watching a pro (or large college) football game live seems to suck. I was in the Dawg Pound once and it was dreadful cold, and you can’t really see the other end of the field from there. I can only imagine how it is in one of the other far-away seats.
Football is MUCH better on HDTV
I’ve not yet been to a live pro NFL game. I do like a college game for the experience once a year or so, and I think I would like to go to a pro game for the experience, but I much prefer to watch the NFL on HDTV.
Except hockey.
(I like baseball second best. In fact, I’m watching baseball right now.)
Baseball is the correct answer here…
