Your handle: any hassles?

**

    1. If you could have any handle you want, what would it be?**

Nah, around here and on G’Dope I’m Ice Wolf, elsewhere on the EzBoards I’m Tanufalla Night, and there’s also a stray Sharnahoak once and a while. The other two are because “Ice Wolf” is a common name, apparently, durn it!

**
2) How many tries did it take for you to get one that stuck?
**

Got it first try around here, back in '01. Which was really cool. I was nearly Black Wolf, actually, but I decided to change dens.

**
3) What (if anything) does your handle mean? Where does it originate?**

“Ice wolves” are kind of dimensional soul-energy warriors from a range of mountains called the Kyrosians. All comes from some mad ravings a friend and I started writing up back in '79. The same “universe” spawned my other nicks above – “Sharnahoak” is a wolf-souled Redeemer of Souls, while Tanufalla is a beach from the same world as the Kyrosians.

Mercifully for the world, it remains largely unpublished.

  1. Atreyu. I rather like this one.

  2. When I first registered on the SDMB, my username was Shy Ghost. After some time, I decided to switch to my current username, which I figured sounded less shy. I got both names on the first try here. Alas, someone else beat me to those names on AOL and on LJ.

  3. The name originates from a character in the novel The Neverending Story by Michael Ende, the first half of which was turned into a reasonably decent movie in 1984. As far as I know, it was a name that was purely the invention of the author, and within the book, it had the meaning of “son of all”.

Google turns up a little more than 17,000 hits for Atreyu.

You mean…you meanthose are not your real names???

Mudshark was what I tried my first time. Actually, it was Mudshark2911, but the numbers were dropped about a month later.

It’s from the Led Zeppelin/Vanilla Fudge groupie thing.

Waaaaay back in the eighties I was in a nice ironically-pretentious noise band (along the lines of Nurse With Wound, Negativland,) called Electric Mud. We got most of our airplay on college & community radio, although David Wisdom once gave us about a half-hour on Nightlines. (CBC! National! Woo! So what if it was after 3:00am and everyone who heard it was very likely to high to remember it the next day…?)

Anyway, the first time we were on G.X. Jupitter-Larsen’s Newsounds Gallery, the host introduced me as “Larry Mudd”, and it just sort of stuck. (‘Larry’ is, more or less, my real given name, god help me.)

I didn’t realize that ‘Larry Mudd’ was a Star Trek reference until much later. Go figure. (My father’s name is Harry, even.)

Never had trouble with my nick. Ever.
As for where it originates, it was thought up by one of my school mates. Think ‘malcolm’ crossed with something else…

DeVena, do you play EQ on the Seventh Hammer server?

Your name sounds familiar.

Zoe, of course they are, we’re just playing with ya

acrossthesea= Across The Sea, name of a weezer song, got it on my first try. I was tired of using my aim/email name, Utopiaseas (the similarity is honestly just a coincidence).

Utopiaseas was derived on aol years ago. The intersection of Utopia Pkwy/Northern Blvd. in Fresh Meadows, NY was signifigant and I wanted to be UtopiaNorthern but that held too many letters. There was another street intersecting or near to Utopia called Oceania, and I loved that word so I wanted to be UtopiaOceania, still too many letters. Oceania led to Oceans but UtopiaOceans was taken, so I became UtopiaSeas.

I should’ve just gone with Marley, since that’s my name. It’s also my handle at other sites. I think if I’d asked for it at the time I registered, I’d have gotten it. I started posting again in April and asked TubaDiva if I could change it around then, but no go. Ah well.

  1. If anything, it would be either Evil Mastermind - which is the sig I have used in e-mails for the past 8 or so years, or Carmody The Mage - one of my favorite D&D characters and also my e-mail address.

  2. One try, I think. That was a long time ago.

  3. From The Muppet Show.

Also, I use either Gorgon or Gorgon Heap on all other boards, Web sites, etc. etc. I vistit or have visited in the past, so I’m pretty easy to find.

This was my first choice.

Wanted something that had “first name, last name” format, sounded sinister, and lent itself to an appropriate blurb in the “location” box. After a moment’s thought, this just popped into my head.

“Dracul” instead of “Dracula”, because it has a stronger sound, and because I liked “Vlad the Devil” better than “Vlad the Son of the Devil”.

Hey, it just occurred to me that the initials are “V.D.”!

My real name

first try , got it

Declan

I’ve actually been thinking a lot about this lately. I generally hate to change screen names, but I use variations of this one all the time. I would love some obscure reference to one of my fave movies/books/songs.

I actually tried to get a couple other names, but they were taken and I ended up with SeGate.

It’s a form of my initials and maiden name. It is also genderless (as others have mentioned). I also get the occasional email directed to the SeaGate tech company.
If I were to be so wishywashy as to change my name, I’d want it to be for something really great (or at least marginally interesting). Any suggestions?

I’ve used Avarie or some form thereof for a while … taken from a book. I never have any trouble registering it, and if I do, I just add the 537 (my initials spelled out on a phone pad) to it.

And it rhymes with “Atari” - it’s not Avery spelled funny. I swear!!

1)Biggirl
2) 1st try
3)It was the first thing to pop into my head.
Every now and then I wish I’d given it more thought. I did change my name here once and everybody yelled at me so I changed it back.

This is the only site where I use Biggirl. I’ve got other names at other places-- Harriet Tubman being one of my favorites.
