Your Lost Childhood... which item?

If you could get back, one, and only one, item from your childhood, that has been lost for infinity, what would it be? Note: I am speaking of the exact object that you owned not a duplicate, or reproduction.

Mine would be my robot. When I was about 2, I got this enormous robot for X-mas. I still have photos of it. It was as tall as I was, about 18 inches. I remember it used to scare the shit out of me. It would walk, it’s chest plates would open up, machine guns would pop out and rat-a-tat away, spin around, and shoot out smoke, sparks, and light. That was the damn coolest toy I ever had. I have no idea what ever happened to it. I have seen other robots from that era in collectors mags and on tv. They are worth A LOT of money. My WAG is that mine would be worth about two grand, if I still had it and it was in excellent condition. I always took care of my toys. I still have all my Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. Many of them still look good as new after about 22 years or so. I hope to hand them down to my child(ren)when I have become a daddy someday.

IMHO, the toy robots they sell nowadays suck!

Zip.

It was a little stuffed chimpanzee with a yellow shirt and red overalls, with the name “ZIP” and the front of the shirt. It also had a red and white hat that looked kinda like a beanie with a brim. you could squeeze one of the arms and it had a little horn in there that was supposed to sound like a chimpanzee sound. I carried that thing with me everyone till I was about 5 or so. I haven’t seen it since I was 12 and have no idea where it is now.

You know, I sit here and think, and can’t think of anything I’d like back? That’s odd.

Well, if it had to be one thing, I’d like my old red bike back. Had a metallic red seat, red frame, red handlebars, the works. Short cranks, too. I’d busted the back wheel, the cranks, and the handlebars jumping and doing BMX type stuff in it, and this was before it became big. WAY before.

Probably a good thing I’m too old for it now.

My Sock Monkey! It just vanished one day. I still think my sisters kidnapped him. Heck, they gave haircuts to my dolls and put the cuttings in the bandaid box to terrorize me. Yes, I had a bandaid fetish when I was younger.

Back to the Sock Monkey…I found one at a craft fair about 8 years ago and had to have it. Unfortunately it wasn’t MY Sock Monkey, but at least I can show my kids what one is when the time comes.

Rosebud

I want my collection of Dr. Suess books back, dammit!

Somebody at the warehouse stole them (and other things) while our stuff was in storage for four years. We couldn’t press any charges cause all the missing stuff was in one box and the company had no record of that box ever existing. (bloody convenient for them, if you ask me)

My stuffed horse head on a stick. You know, one that you can run around and play horsie with.

I kept it in the basement forever and explicitly told my mother i wanted to keep it. Then i moved out and upon visiting my parents found it to be missing. She threw it away!!!
Now I’m not sure if I would really want it back, because i have a lot of fun tormenting my mom for throwing it away.

I had a baseball card collection that would probably be worth 5 digits today. However, the classic story - I went away to college and mom threw them all away. Sigh.

Oh man. I know what I’d want back. I can’t remember the name of the doll…Tuesday? Anyway, she was about 18" high and absolutely beautiful. The coolest thing about her was that the top of her head(at the hairline) could rotate so that she could be a brunette with stylish bangs, or a killer platinum blonde. She was so cool. They even had a Barbie-sized one that could tan if you left her in the sun. I was the only one of my friends who had either one…I’d really love to find one for myself…oops…I mean my little girl.

My red velveteen stuffed dachsund that said ‘Red Sox’ in white flannel letters. I was adopted when I was 7 months old, and it was the only toy I had that pre-dated my adoption. I brought it to school for show and tell one day and two mean boys, whose names I still remember am very tempted to publish here, ripped it in half and threw it in the dumpster.

My little stuffed puppy with the frayed nose. It was my best friend.

My talking G.I. Joe.

My stuffed animals were always my favourite toys. I still have several of them, though they are looking very, very threadbare.

I had a cermaic goldfish coin bank that was made specially for me - don’t know what ever happened to it, but that I would love to have again.

A doll, I’d named her Susan. She was entirely cloth, and had a tan dress and brown pigtails. My little sister insisted on bringing her to the pool during my swiming lessons one day, and left her there. Mom wouldn’t go back for her, and I haven’t seen her since.

That should say ceramic, of course.

I’m lucky…I still have the one thing I’d want. My Pooh bear. I’ve had him since I was 1, and he’s looking REALLY threadbare, but he still has a place of honor in my room.

My Cabbage Patch doll

My Fireball XL-5 rocketship.
Or,maybe; my original 1960’s vintage platic model Starship Enterprise. The big, 2 1/2 foot long model with the working lights.

Actually, I still have the prize member of the Remember Your Childhood brigade: Charity Bear, a somewhat greying polar teddy bear with a red bow tie. I got him in Grade 1 and used him as a pillow until about two years ago. Now he occupies pride of place on my bookcase.

I just turned around and looked at him. Awwwwwww…

I still have a lot of junk from my childhood; it’s in boxes in my parents’ basement, earmarked for the next cousin to be born (which will be in about six months, if i’m correct).

My cabbage patch kid, Brianna. She was stolen by a “friend” from my house. I never saw her again. I still have her birth certificate. I miss her so much.

::runs away sobbing loudly::
