Me, I’m a combo girl. I put on a pad right before I know I’m going to get it (don’t want to put a tampon in before I have to…too drying), and then the first day or so I use both tampon and a pad just in case. Then for the next few days, just tampons.
I loathe pads and haven’t used one since high school. I always hated the idea of sitting in blood and was slightly paranoid they would make a noise when I walked or there would be a smell. Someone in another thread talked about the risk of pubic hair getting tangled in hose (which I’ve never experienced). I have suffered pubic hair caught on pad adhesive - YOUCH.
Luckily, I’ve always had a pretty light flow. I use regular tampons and don’t need one at night.
I’ve had the pubes on pad adhesive, too–bad bad bad! I don’t love using them either–I used to in high school but now I can’t believe I wasn’t always using tampons. Using the pads for the first day is kind of annoying, but it’s so heavy I don’t want to risk not. (Sure, I could buy heavier tampons but I wouldn’t get all that much use from them–it’s easier for me to use the pads and the normal tampons than to switch to a heavy tampon for the first 24 hours.)
I voted “other” but only because I couldn’t choose more than one. I never used pads…ever. From my first period, I found Mom’s box of tampons and that is what I used until last year when I switched to the Diva Cup (which I adore but it has its own set of drawbacks) then I got very sick last year with an unexplainable intestinal infection which resulted in an emergency surgery and subsequent follow-up surgeries and hospitalizations- all of which seemed to coincide with my period.
Being sliced up from end to end (okay not that bad, but it feels that way) including incisions perilously close to the girly bits made using either tampons or the Diva Cup impractical at best and possibly painful, so I am using pads for now and hate them. I went back to tampons last month for a few days, but it was uncomfortable. As soon as I heal up a bit more and can do it without fear of tearing something open I plan to go back to the Diva Cup.
All you whippersnappers complaining about adhesive and pubes don’t know how good you’ve got it. I remember sanitary napkin belts, with those viscous little metal teeth on either end to hold the “tails” of the pad. Your pubes and your ass were equally at risk.
I have switched from tampons to a Diva Cup, but I usually wear a pad with it for the heaviest few days and at night, in case the cup runneth over.
Pads. Don’t love them, but they’re the only option that doesn’t hurt. I find tampons extremely uncomfortable, and in that light I’m never going near one of those Diva cups.
I have always found tampons to be irritating and extremely drying except on “gusher” days, when they leak. So I don’t like 'em and don’t use them, the only exception being for swimming.
I’ve considered using diva cups, especially for those days I’m 12 hours on a jobsite, but just haven’t gotten around to it.
I voted other, since I use birth control that handily stops my cycle completely.
When I used to have periods, I had a drawer full of all the normal choices, and skipped between them depending how heavy I was at that moment, what activities I might be doing, etc.
Another combo girl here. I use liners and OBs for the heavier days (I end up using 3 different weights during the week), and the Mooncup for the lighter days or on weekends when I can easily empty as needed. I also have a couple of Glad Rags liners that I occasionally use.
I’ve only ever worn pads. The new(ish?) Always Infinity pads are great – they’re simultaneously super thin and super absorbent, and they wick away fluid from the top layer so the top stays dry. You don’t feel them at all.
