Right now I’m dealing with a cold (dammit!) I know I’ll get through it and I’ve been through it before, but experience doesn’t make it any more tolerable the next time. Of all the symptoms I have, my persistent coughing is the worst. That dry, tickling feeling at the back of the throat just drives me nuts. If it bothers me at night there’s no way to fall asleep. I also hate having to make my neighboring cubicle-mates listen to my non-stop hacking. Drinking water and medication can only do so much. And then, there’s no easy, discreet way of (TMI warning) ridding my throat of the phlegm without either going into the bathroom, or making gross noises and hocking it up and ejecting it into a tissue.
So, what other minor ailments do you just absolute hate getting the most? I can deal with a headache and the occasional sneeze as long as I don’t sneeze more than two or three times. I’ll take any of these over coughing.
Migraines and colds. In fact, I’m down with a cold now. I know what you mean about the coughing/hacking at work stuff. And that tickle in the back of the throat thing you described? It’s just AWFUL!!
Thanks to TMJ problems, my jaw sometimes goes off in the wrong direction and chomps down on cheek rather than tooth to tooth. For a few days after, the swollen area keeps getting re-bit, just because it’s swollen.
Today is the first day in a month that my busted tailbone hasn’t been killing me! I slipped on some frost on our deck while taking the dog for a walk and it’s been painful to sit down till, coincidentally enough, today.
For the last couple of months I’ve been waking up with a pain in my chest. Bothers me most bending over or when I cough/sneeze Most of the times it disappears after taking my shower or if I swing my arms back (kinda crack it)…no clue what it is though, only that it is damn inconvenient and painfull
A couple months ago I ripped the nail off my left big toe. It grew back, but now it hurts like hell. Ingrown? I don’t know . . . it looks like it’s supposed to, but if I bump it or something . . . youch! Also, I have a pretty bad cold and with it came itchy ears . . . way down deep inside where I can’t reach.
I had a fingernail infection. It finally went away, but it took the lower half of my fingernail off. Now I’m growing a new fingernail, and waiting for the top half to fall off.
When I have a cold, the stuffed nose. No contest. Coughing is almost as annoying. But having one nostril completely plugged drives me bonkers.
On an everyday level, bug bites. I got the Bug Bite From Hell about five days ago, and it’s healing now, but it was about three inches across at its worst – it swelled out beyond the red part, which I’ve never seen – and itched constantly for 48 horrible hours. Now the swelling has gone down and it’s not very red, though it still itches a bit if I touch it. Fortunately the other bites I get aren’t that bad, unless I have several at once, which makes me crazy.
Middle ear infections almost exactly every two months. Terribly painful, but more a nuisance than any other – call the doctor and he’ll just write a scrip for me. Also, there’s this area in my right knee that every 3 months or so will just get aggravated. It doesn’t hurt when I’m standing or sitting, but going between the two, or just picking my leg up is extremely painful. Goes away after a couple weeks, tho.
I’ll go with greck, oral ulcers/canker sores are about the worst thing ever. I have braces so I get them all the time. Have yet to figure out how to get rid of them.
I have this odd ailment where I get these rather painful aches in my arms and legs sometimes. It seems to be totally random–it happens on days when I exercise a lot, it happens on days when I don’t exercise at all, it happens on days when I lie around in bed, and it happens on days when I’m on my feet all day… They occur in both arms and both legs, pretty much at random. Ibuprofen or simply lying down for a while seems to solve them, so it’s not like a big deal. But when I’m at school after a long day and my leg arm aches and I don’t have the opportunity to take some meds or rest, it can be really sucky. My mother always said they are just growing pains, and I guess that’s possible, but I’m 18 now and they still occur as much as they did when I was a little kid.
Sometimes, for no reason (but more often when I have a cold or sore throat), I will start to hypersalivate. I’ll be salivating like I’m eating something amazingly wonderful while I’m just trying to work or sleep or whatever. This makes me incredibly nauseous, plus it’s really annoying. And I’ve never heard of anybody else having it, so I just know I’m a complete freak
I’m starting to develop shin splints, I think.
But the real hell is the itchy eyes in allergy season. The rest of the allergies I can deal with, the runny nose, the exhaustion, etc, but the itching gets so bad I want to rip my eyes out of my head.
Sore throat is up there. Some pains you can get away from, but no matter what you do, no matter where you are, your throat will be sore. It makes foods taste weird, it irritates when you drink anything, and just walking around and swallowing is annoying and painful.
