Multiple choice. Hate away!
Notre Dame tops my list, closely followed by the consistently overrated USC, and Ohio State. Honorable mention to Michigan.
Despise them all.
I have a low-level hate for most teams here. Not enough for me to vote for them . But I went to Georgia Tech, so I voted Georgia, and, even though my high school was called Notre Dame, I hate them as well.
Joe
Notre Dame is at the bottom of my list. USC is above them, then Ohio State. During bowl season, I’ll openly root for Ohio State, though.
I think it’s a safe bet Notre Dame will be the most loved AND the most hated team.
Every sport has a team that’s both the most loved and the most hated. There’s the Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, the Celtics, the Montreal Canadiens, the Notre Dame football team, the Duke basketball team. So it goes.
Most of the people who love Notre Dame (like me) have absolutely no good reason for loving them (I didn’t go there, nobody I ever knew went there). The people who hate them most usually have no real reason to hate them.
But so what? It’s fun.
My most hated team in Notre Dame. But I also hate Ohio State, Michigan and USC, so they got votes too.
Finally, I didn’t used to hate Tennessee until I moved here. Now I do, so I tossed them a vote also. Most of the other teams I’m mildly indifferent to, unless my school is playing them that week.
Illinois is a top 25 program?
I only voted once. Notre Dame.
According to this site they are in the All-Time Top 25, which is where the list came from for the poll. Look down the list for other surprises! All-Time covers a lot of ground.
I went to Notre Dame, who has a strong rivalry with Michigan and USC. But I didn’t vote for either. I went with whatever schools give me an extremely bad taste in my mouth after home games. Michigan and USC fans who travel are fantastic. USC fans travel thousands of miles and spend tons of money just to see a football game. They’re enjoyable to interact with in the parking lot and the stadium, and they’re gracious after they kick our ass. (The same can’t really be said at USC home games, unfortunately.) The same holds true for Michigan. Things have gotten better in the Big House and in Ann Arbor, though, which is great.
But the exact opposite is true for Ohio State, FSU and Miami. It’s been a long time for games against FSU and Miami, but there was a recent Ohio State game that gave me a really bad impression of Buckeye fans. And I didn’t even see Michigan State on the list - I definitely would have voted for them. John-El has been gone for a while, but his legacy still lingers like a bad fart.
#24
There needs to be more hate for USC.
I despise Penn State. I despise people who walk around going “WE ARE PENN STATE!” and most of them didn’t even go there. I despise the fact that it’s wall-to-wall Penn State during football season. It’s one thing to have Eagles, Ravens and Steelers fans (and the occasional Bengal or Browns fan) to argue with, that’s what makes it fun.
I despise the fact that Joe Paterno schedules cupcakes and does the whole humility act about how he just hopes that Penn State will play a good game this week and God willing they’ll win the game when the only question is whether they’re going to win by 3 touchdowns or 4.Yes, Paterno is a humble man. Yes, he’s a hell of a nice guy. But it irritates me that he doesn’t know the difference between humility and showing people up.
Yeah - I meant I didn’t see it when I voted, but did once the results popped up.
I went to Florida, and hate Notre Dame mostly because they show every freakin’ game, no matter how bad they’re doing. If Notre Dame would just join the Big Ten I and quit whining about how tough it is to win with their academic standards, I’d have no truck with them.
Florida State is a gimme, and Miami fans are obnoxious, so that was easy enough (even though I secretly wish I’d gone to FSU instead of a real school because of their high female to male ratio).
Georgia I added out of tradition, although recently we more pity them than hate them. Ditto Tennessee. For Alabama and LSU I have begrudging respect.
Michigan and Ohio State get special places on the hate list because of “THE Ohio State” thing is annoying as hell, and how one year, when I lived in Cincinnati and worked with a bunch of Michigan grads, back in the Bo days, Michigan started something like 1-3, yet I kept hearing how Michigan was “the best 1-1 team in the country”, then “the best 1-2 team in the country”, then “the best 1-3 team in the country”. They just sucked that year.
That said, some of the teams I hate have some of the nicest grads that I’ve met. It’s the fans that never went to the school (or any school) that tend to be the idiots - this holds true for Florida fans as well).
I voted FSU because, for reasons unknown, it’s the #1 school about which the endless sea of Virginia Tech fans that surround me each day will not ever shut the fuck up.
(Actually, that’s not quite true; that title more accurately goes to Virginia Tech, but they weren’t on the list.)
I picked FSU, among others, because they’ve been arguably the most overrated team of the last 10 years. They always seem to nab a high preseason ranking based on nothing but reputation.
All teams that Keith Jackson used to announce for, and Notre Dame.
“Whoa Nellie!!! I’m an annoying announcer!!!”
MAYBE you wouldn’t. But Penn State DID join the Big Ten, and Airman Doors, among others, STILL despises them!
Again, I don’t begrudge you your right to hate any football team. It’s just as silly for me to love the Irish as it is for you to hate them.
But I strongly doubt whether Notre Dame hatred would dissipate even a little if they joined the Big Ten.
Notre Dame - because every ND fan that I have been around is an arrogant SOB.
USC - They get what they deserve in with the Lane Kiffin.
Ohio State - More arrogance.
Even though I went to Ga Tech, I did not pick UGA. I have too many good friends that are UGA alumni/supporters.
Explain how Ohio State is arrogant.
