Your nose ring looks like a booger!

It seems one of the latest nose piercings around here (It may have been popular elsewhere much earlier, but Maine is always at least a decade behind the times) is a broken nose ring. That is, it doesn’t form a complete circle, but has a part of the bottom cut out. Like this one: http://ft-cdn.upshotcommerce.com/mas_assets/theme/freshtrends/images/seoimages/nose-stud-septum1.jpg

The first time I saw one like that, I did a double take at the girl wearing it, because I really thought she had two boogers hanging out of her nose. I came pretty close to handing her a tissue before I realized that the look was intentional. :smack:

So, if anyone is thinking of getting one of those piercings, just know that people like me are going to think you have boogers hanging out of your nose.

Yes! I have a nose piercing and I think septum piercings are really awful and ugly. I’m not sure why people like it. Worse, men get them done! Sure, whatever floats your boat, I guess.

It’s not the latest thing, septum piercings (even with that style ring) have been at least somewhat popular since I was in high school in the 90’s, I remember wanting one. I always liked that style and a lot of people will use them because if they’re doing something where it’s not socially acceptable they can flip it up into their nose and no one can tell they have it.

ETA, when you said ‘broken’ and ‘latest thing’, I assumed you were going to be talking about this, only because I saw one of them for the first time a few days ago.

I admit to agreeing with the OP.

I don’t mind most piercings, including the other style of nose piercing (such as I suppose Anaamika has.)

As someone with a “traditional” nose piercing I hate to judge others’ because not everyone likes mine either, but, hell yes that’s ugly. I do like the one that Joey P linked to; I could definitely see myself wearing that (on the weekend. If I could figure out how to put it on).

I have a small flower stud. It’s fairly small and diamond and gold, which passes.

Hmm…I have a friend who wears one of those “broken” circles in his nose. I think it looks fine. Not much different than a full circle. Perhaps it makes a difference how much the jewelry sticks out of the nostril? I’ve never once mistaken my friend’s piercing for a booger.

My neighbor has a little stud in her nose. It took me a year or so to realize it wasn’t a zit, it was a nose stud.

Which…passes? What on earth was I trying to say here? I meant to say it was fairly subtle and looks kind of like a regular stud. I have no idea where I was going, though.

Broken circle?

The correct term is curved barbell. You can get more specific with how curved it is and whether both ends of the barbell are threaded and whether the threads are internal or external.

That’s what the OP called it.

I know. Just trying to edumacate.

ETA: kayaker. Proud owner of 13 captive bead rings (unbroken circles).

I wore captive beads and curved barbells (like that, not the eyebrow ones) in my cartilage for about 17 years. I think they were 14 gauge, big enough to see through the hole, then, last year I took it out and it closed up in about 2 weeks. I lost one of the balls and took the ring out so I wouldn’t lose it too, just until I could get a new one. After having it in that long, I couldn’t believe it closed up that fast. Considering how much pain I went though to put it in, I’m not doing it again (I jammed that 14g ring through my cartilage all by myself).

Michael Stipe now has one of these. Some of us who still listen to and follow R.E.M. have commented on it, and said the same thing.

Aw, heck, the guy posted nude photos of himself online shortly before the band broke up in 2011.  He was 51 years old! He’s in a position where he can do whatever he wants as long as it’s legal and with consenting adults, so more power to him.

My wife has one wrapped around her little finger.

[sub]That would be me![/sub]
