Looks like I can do the poll here.
Decided to let the poll be private (encourage more lurkers to vote).

I don’t think there should be any rules in the pit.
Maybe. I think you are being optimistic, though. People that don’t care still won’t “vote”, even if they are leaning toward the “no rules” part.
ETA—I voted just to give it a tiny boost.
You technically can do it here, but I don’t think you are supposed to do it here.
Well, copyright restrictions, etc I can see. But language? Please.
Most message boards don’t have a pit. The whole point of the pit is to have a place where, if you get really pissed off, you can just let the flames fly and vent your feelings and frustrations without fear of getting yourself banned. You can say whatever you want to whomever you want in any way that you want. You can just let the flames fly.
Only you can’t. Because there are restrictions in the pit, it’s no longer really a pit at all. If you have to watch what you say, you can’t really let the flames fly and vent to your heart’s content. You have to run everything through a filter to make sure you aren’t violating the rules, which means you can’t just vent.
Seems kinda silly to me to have a pit that isn’t really a pit.
I can see restrictions for things like copyright violations and anything that might violate the law, but language? That’s just silly. You should be able to call anyone (poster, moderator, even Ed) every swear word in the book and even a few that aren’t. Let the flames fly. That’s the whole point of a pit.
Agreed.
One message board I know of has two pits. One has restrictions (like not threatening other posters). The other is no holds barred and completely anonymous. Posters are automatically assigned numbers when hey post and it is truly anything goes.
When this poll reveals that nearly everyone finds the language rules stupid, the rules will be revised.
We have polling turned on in ATMB so people can experiment with how it works.
We do not allow polling in ATMB as a general rule.
So I am closing this thread.
