Your Participation in Online Communities (poll)

Do you mostly seek out communities where people think the way you do, or do you spend some online time engaging with people who don’t?

If you engage sometimes with those who don’t, do you do that mostly in environments where a wide range of opinions are tolerated, or do you sometimes go into spaces where there’s close to a consensus and you’re not in it (you’re an outsider, perhaps viewed as invader or even troll)? If you “invade” do you do so to taunt and annoy or do you try to engage with the people you encounter there if they’re willing to do so?

That was supposed to have been a poll (but I never saw the option to make it one). I don’t guess it matters. Use the OP to shape your responses but I wanted people to freehand reply and elaborate on their answers anyhow.

You can still make a poll. It’s under the gear symbol in the dialogue box.

If you make a poll, I’m clicking “Lurking and making helpful comments that are witty, but no one else thinks so.”

I’m a loner, Dottie. A rebel.

This is the only community website I patronize, you lucky humans.

Same here.

Years ago I frequented a “pro-life” message board, starting mostly as a troll, but eventually reformed and engaged in some respectful conversations.
