I’ve got 10,000 records and 2200 CDs, full of music back to 1908, but mainly concentrating on pop, R&B and rock music from the late '40s through the mid '80s, but only about a dozen DVDs, mostly box sets - The Simpsons, Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Beatles Anthology and others. If allowed to brag, I’d say that there isn’t a Beatles record that I don’t have. If you take into consideration the original UK and US records, in both mono and stereo, that’s a finite number of records. But in different countries, there would be different compilations exclusive to only that country. I have all of these. Then there are reissues and rarities albums, and variations on the same LP with different tracks from country to country, colored vinyl, bootlegs… it’s crazy! And this is not the only group for whom I am a completist.
cactus waltz, I collect all these records because I like the music! I wanted to have a copy of all those songs at my fingertips. I started doing it in a time when it seemed that each song on the radio was better than the last one. At least that’s how it seemed when I was young enough to be soaking up all that music like a sponge. I hope other people have felt that way about the period of music that affected them the most.
Gangs Of New York The Mask (Kellogg’s cereal version) Pirates Of The Caribbean The Ring Stigmata
What?
That’s it.
Most of my VHS collection is elsewhere, and I don’t keep a list. I only have 60+ CDs. (My one shelf is now full, though.) I do own all 30+ Alice Cooper albums (and a few bootlegs) in one form or another. (Welcome To My Nightmare on vinyl, cassette and autographed CD.)
My CD/record collection can be found here, although the vinyl collection is incomplete.
I only have a few DVDs:
True Stories (2 copies)
A Hard Day’s Night
The Royal Tenenbaums
Rushmore
Bottle Rocket
Best in Show
Waiting for Guffman
This is Spinal Tap
High Fidelity
Say Anything
About a Boy (co-ownership)
Donnie Darko (co-ownership)
And fewer VHSes:
Yellow Submarine
Citizen Kane
Punch-Drunk Love
I’m not sure when I last updated this record list, I’m thinking… august, september. It was incorrect even then, and now further changes have been made… but you get the picture: record collection
