The first “Rock Me” by Muddy Waters:

Here’s a nice share for these bunkmates - Prism and Bathory!

Also Raffi:

Speaking of bonesy stuff, The Band did “Rags and Bones” - a fine number, (hearing it for the first time), just like pretty well everything they ever did, IMO. I think it’s Rick singing, and a nice little guitar solo. A weird little synth flourish at the end felt misplaced, but other than that…

But they’re up against one of the most legendary sonic trios in the History of Sound: Victoria, BC’s
Nomeansno.
No dice.
FTW.

ETA: got a "video unavailable " message for the Raffi.

Not a real stand-out for the Pixies, and then - there’s the classic, so’s…

This’ll be my only multi-posting “run”…

A really tight unit from Louisville called Bastro (put out three fantastic lps, then called it - perfect), kicks off “Can of Whoopass” with a nice, totalitarian tromping along before kicking into that Bastro-y kick-assness, which has been surprisingly challenged by a catchy, whip-smart little number of the same name from Dudes of Hazmat, making this, probably, a Tie For the Ages.

All those Tightropes pale in comparison to Janelle Monáe’s:

(But they’re all pretty good, to be honest. I’d probably rank them Monáe, Leon, SRV, ELO, LP.)

Rock Steady

Bad Company for the win! (first concert, headliners of a triple bill)

Aretha (she also wrote it)

Bob Marley and the Wailers

The Whispers

One that never seems to go away is Stay.

There was the Maurice Williams original that was first covered by The Four Seasons, and later by The Hollies, Jackson Browne and others I guess.

But there have been totally different Stays, that I know of, by:

Lisa Loeb
Shakespear’s Sister
Post Malone
Rihanna

Another one must be due soon.

Also by David Bowie.

Not often Guns n’Roses can square off against Cole Porter…

Axl’s voice I’ve always likened to either a lynx or a bobcat that could sing but not before having 3 packs a day for ten years, first, and with Cole - first time ever I’ve sat down to really take in what I anticipated to be rakish, clever rhyming, and got my wish, and kinda hoped I could print them out here, and would suggest you find them in google and read them along to the tune.
Not bad - kicks Axl’s, Slash’s, and Duff’s asses clear across the liquor store parking lot.

Oh…wait…

Never realised Monty Python broached Cole Porter, here - I only remembered the Micheal Palin version, which gets set up @ 1:40 or so. (scrollable along bottom)

I think Palin snatched victory from the jaws of Porter, here, especially when backed up by the following chorus…
(when it ends, click on “next clip” in lower right)

“Angel of Death”

Yeah, dudes on the bottom.

“Those Were the Days” (Carroll O’Connor & Jean Stapleton)

“Those Were the Days” (Mary Hopkin)

Also Cream:

Trying to avoid one-word titles (and common/trite “I____ You”-type ones), hoping “Anaconda” is an obscure enough one to qualify.

The Melvins

Nicki Minaj (does she always sing like that?)

My anaconda don’t want none unless you got buns, hun

Right, got it, and, sure - I’m not one to complain about rampant, out-of-control twerking , but yeah, King Buzzo’s way cooler than you.

Today’s cage match throws together Donna Summer, Grand Funk Railroad, and eventual belt-holder MDC (Millions of Dead Cops, More Dead Cops, Mulit-Death Corporation, Metal Devil Cokes, Millions of Damn Christians - take your pick)

A new challenger enters the ring!

Innocently flicking thru some David Bowie on the 'Tube, I found out that that there are several songs called Quicksand. Britney Spears (not as bad as I expected); Morray (not my thing, but not too bad - better than Ms Spears). But you know who’s best. Here’s the demo version, to add a little more interest.

Man, I’m not sure he ever did a better version.
