Your Ten Favorite Songs

In alphabetical order:

The City of New Orleans – Arlo Guthrie
Coyote - Joni Mitchell (live version from The Last Waltz)
Deacon Blues - Steely Dan
I Should Have Known Better – The Beatles
Love Interruption – Jack White
Searching for a Heart – Warren Zevon
Southern Cross – Crosby, Stills, and Nash

Take Five - Dave Brubeck Quartet
Who’s Gonna Help Brother Get Further? – Allen Toussaint/Elvis Costello version

(had to bump Gerry Rafferty’s Baker Street at the eleventh hour when I thought of Take Five)

For now, and in no order:
“Terraplane Blues” – Robert Johnson

“So Many Roads” – Otis Rush (Live in Japan)

“Red House” – Jimi Hendrix (pretty much any version)

“Stray Cat Blues” or “Sympathy for the Devil” – Rolling Stones (Get yer Ya-Yas Out)

“How Many More Times” – Led Zeppelin (Live at RAH)

“It’s My Own Fault” – Johnny Winter (Johnny Winter And Live)

“Beetin’ Nockin’ Ringin’” – Jimmy Dawkins

“Roy’s Bluz” – Roy Buchanan (Live Stock)

“Dance of the Maya” – Mahavishnu Orchestra (The Inner Mounting Flame)

“The Life Divine” – John McLaughlin/Carlos Santana (Love Devotion Surrender)

Gah! I can’t believe the songs I overlooked in my top 10. No Dylan? No Neil Young? What is wrong with my head?

May we submit a secondary top 10?

BTW, I just made myself a Spotify playlist of many of the songs cited that I am unfamiliar with. Gotta love Spotify. I have some good listening ahead.

My methodology - I looked through some of the playlists I’ve made recently and noted which songs were added over and over again to multiple lists. So it’s not my list of lifetime favorites, but my favorites at this point in my life:

“First Time” Gryffin remix, Kygo & Ellie Goulding
“Caravan” Kygo remix, Passenger
“Snapback” Old Dominion
“Get Me Some of That” Thomas Rhett
“Phantom Stranger” Rom Zombie
“Shotgun Rider” Tim McGraw
“You’re Alive” CMA
“You Need to Calm Down” Taylor Swift
“Said Nobody” Old Dominion
“Chillin It” Cole Swindell
