I want to remind everyone here that starting Monday, January 8 the newest documentary by Ken Burns, called Jazz will start on your local Public Boradcasting Station. I already got it on DVD and I must say it is outstanding what I have seen of it so far. It is getting very good reviews from others with a little bit more cache then me. It has gotten some criticism as well, especially regarding the limited coverage and somewhat disregard it gives to modern jazz (post 1965), probably warranted. Indeed someone who is very imersed in the world of Jazz may find a lot to dislike about it. I don’t really know. But any topic as big and broad and important as this will have problems of differences of editorial focus. That should not dissuade anyone from watching this 10 part documentary on what is frequently referred to as America’s one true art.
God help Mr. Burns if Keith Olbermann turns out to be a jazz fanatic.
I’ve been planning for this for months. I’m not a huge jazz fan, but my husband is, and I keep reminding him to get some blank videotapes. Has he done it yet? Nooooooo.
Oh well. I’ll remind him one more time. If he doesn’t have them tomorrow, I guess he’s just SOL.
