The NFL’s website has open voting for fans for the Pro Bowl. And, God bless 'em, the fan votes actually count (a little). Who do ya’ll want to see make the Pro Bowl?
Does anyone have opinions on positions like O-lineman or linebacker? It’s a lot harder to gauge the Pro Bowl worthiness of players with quieter positions. I know folks who’ll only vote for quarterback and runningback (the flashy positions) and be damned with the rest. Anybody planning on voting for all positions?
if i were to pick offensive lineman fairly, i guess i’d have to look at how many sacks they allowed, the average run of the backs, stuff like that. but i don’t, i just vote for my favorite team, which is the indianapolis colts. i mean, they have to have a great o-line. look at what they do with hacks like dudes named peyton and edgerrin!
i don’t know how you evaluate these type of players statistically. i’d say you can’t, really. different offensive and defensive schemes produce varying results as far as sacks, tackles, and interceptions go. i think you just have to determine who makes the most plays, which entails more football game watching than i can fit into my schedule.
I just watch my local team (who shall remain blue and nameless, except for last week when they were red and nameless). We have no offensive line, let alone offensive line Pro Bowl quality players. Our defensive line is down to its 15th string due to injuries. I don’t know enough about the other players on the other teams to know who is worthy. They all look good (especially defensive linemen, linebackers and secondary) against my team.
However, if my running back does not make it, I will be very, very upset. He cured his biggest problem from the previous year, is having and oustanding year, and has been nearly the only offense my simultaneously beloved/despised team has had all season.
Don’t worry, Tiki’s in.
I do vote for every position whenever I get around to voting, which is not that often. I’m about to go do it right now.
Kinda a hard year this year this year, aint it? Alge Crumpler is my fersure TE vote. Tiki B is RB. Detroits Drummond is my kick returner. But for WR, Randy Moss is the best in the game, but has been playing injured. Should he get the nod, or should someone with better numbers get it? Another Viking pro-bowl regular, center Matt Birk is out for a few weeks. Should he? Priest Holmes is another shoe in that, due to injury, suddenly is questionable.
I pity the trench players like guards. With them, they can have a pro bowl year this year, but not be recognized for a couple years.
Man. I didn’t know the voting was on already. I’ll post back when I’m not so busy.
Six sacks all season is not a bad mark, especially considering they’ve been playing Musical Offensive Line Positions for the past several weeks. You could make a case for that entire offense being in the pro bowl, but it will probably be Peyton, maybe EJ, probably Marvin and either Stokley or Wayne, maybe another from their receiving core, and then hopefully one or two OLine guys.
And, y’know, half of that vaunted defense…
With regard to injuries and voting, if someone is out for a small stretch but should be back before the regular season ended, I voted for them. If they are out for the year (Priest), I did not.
