I got to work a weekend in a call centre once and have a lot of respect for the thankless job they do. But that does not mean that the calls are not annoying and worth dealing with in some manner. Now, I don’t yell at the person at the end of the line, it’s not their fault the system brought up my number in the middle of a nice relaxing evening.
Anyway…
I got a call a while ago for some charity. It was not a good day for me. In fact, it was a few days before I was committed with severe depresion. Needless to say, I was in no mood to listen to anything the person had to say:
Telemarketer: Hi. I’m calling on behalf of the [insert charity here]. We are committed to providing children in war torn countries a chance to go to get an education…
Me: Not interested.
Telemarketer: Did you know that every day children in war torn countries are killed or maimed by land mines or shot on their way to school?
Me: Tell them not to go to school in a war zone.
The telemarketer didn’t have much to say after that.
