You're a Freaking CPA?

Yep, send me a PM when you’re in town.

As a matter of fact, non-citizens, non-residents sometimes pay taxes on income generated within the US, despite your not taking advantage of what those taxes pay for. I just figure you guys will spend them on fancy bombs, or porn. Hopefully porn.

You know that contrary to popular belief, many CPAs have not prepared a single tax return - save their own - much less expat ones, right? Most accountants who have launched their careers from Big 4 firms are familiar with GAAP and have the audit and attestation experience to be able to sign off on financial statements, but can know squat when it comes to the IRC and technical tax issues. Tax is a significantly smaller department in those firms, and most people there do corporate/partnership/provisions, not individual returns; it’s like a specialized group within an already specialized practice. So yes, the dude may have his CPA, but yes, you may very well know more than him when it comes to taxes.

You should find a CPA with tax experience, specifically individual tax - because frankly, a lot of CPA’s don’t.

No, this guy was a tax-preparer sort of guy.
