I know we’re not supposed to comment much on other MBs here, but can I suggest to Poly (as a mod there) a discouragement of merely posting an article, especially an inflammatory one, without offering up a comment of some sort?
That particular OP seems to do that a lot, just post an article then let others agree or rip it to shreds. It’s a bit gutless, IMHO.

In all seriousness, though, I’d like to address Polycarp rather than tossing off another comment at the expense of the other message board.
One of the respondents to the linked thread – Woseley – said

I can’t recall a single post of yours that necessitated an apology, and I can’t think of any time when you said “This is too hard – it’s not worth it.” Due to your patience, insight, and understanding, I open every thread I see with your name on it, whether as the OP or the most recent poster.
Thank you for your presence, and I hope you continue to be a moderating influence (ha! I slay me) on that board as well as this.
Good point, Masonite. FTR, the opinions expressed in that thread are, unless posted by a Server (=Moderator or Admin.) “with his/her hat on” those of the members there and not of the board. And do feel free to comment on those opinions, unless a moderator here indicates that they’d prefer otherwise. The object of both boards is to fight ignorance, although that board’s focus is to promote the truth of Christianity, so you will not be “attacking another board” in commenting on posts made there.
FYI, a large part of Michie’s role there is to scout out articles, commentaries, and such related to Christianity and/or to what the author thinks are appropriate Christian stances, and post them for discussion and comment. They are rarely her own views, but rather whatever she finds and feels appropriate to post – and there are regular disclaimers that they are not her or the board’s opinion. (Several of us, including myself and our own Andros, Dr. Lao and Doctor J) have fun tearing apart the more hate-filled opinion columns when she finds them – and she’s indicated that several people have learned a great deal from seeing stories including lies or misrepresentations and then having the truth behind them brought out in subsequent posts to the thread.
Michie will ordinarily not post her own opinion with an article, with rare exceptions, just leave it for the board members to comment on.

I’m so tired of people saying this board hates Christians. I think it says more about the person making that statement than the rest of us. Anyone concur?

Are you upset that some Christians believe in Hell? You didn’t seem upset over in that thread. I thought your response to v.r.w.c. was very well-thought-out and on target, and reasonably phrased. Good job.
Or are you upset at Wollsley’s comments about the SDMB? I’m tempted to go over there, register, and post links to some of the nastier anti-Christian stuff (from the time period W. is talking about), but that seems traitorous to the SDMB and I don’t want to risk a flame war with Guin. Whom I disagree with in this matter.

Yes. I shouldn’t have dissed her. I understand she serves a useful role there with the articles (and I know she also posts her own opinions). It wouldn’t fly at the SDMB, but as you said the boards have different purposes.
Guin, I just now read your post above in this thread. I don’t see how W’s attitude is unChristian at all, let alone “one of the most unChristian things I’ve ever heard of.” Come now. Do I have to link to particularly un-Christian posts on this board and ask you if maybe they are worse than what W. said over there? The knee-jerk reaction seems to have been yours; he criticized (strongly, but not insultingly) the SDMB of 5 years ago and you more or less flew off the handle at him.
Maybe you and he do read different threads; SDMB is a big place. W. was commenting about particular posters anyway, not everyone.
I believe the SDMB is far more reasoned now, generally, than several years ago, especially when dealing with Christianity. It’s grown up a lot over the years, as have we all.
It should be noted that I’ve had to ask that my posting privileges over there be removed for an indefinite time period rather than commit “suicide-by-mod”. So I won’t be commenting on that thread, just so those of you who post to both boards don’t think I’ve gone soft in the head and agree with them…

Polycarp, your comment over there about how various Christian SDMB posters have in the last year improved the way religious topics are discussed here, is right-on. It is precicely because there are so many intelligent and reasoned Christians on this board, such as yourself and all the others you mentioned, that Christianity is taken somewhat seriously here.
If the only Christians on this board were all utter doofuses, we would have a serious problem. Don’t go away, you guys.

As for the comments on the supposed religious intolerance of the SDMB, I think that’s a crock. Yeah, you’re going to get a doofus like happyheathen with a Catholic-bashing fixation every once in a while. And we certainly don’t have a lot of tolerance for young-earth creationists who don’t bother to even learn about what they’re trying to deconstruct. But the only thing that gets resoundingly rejected over here is intolerance itself. If somebody comes over here and flogs consenting adults for believing or living as they choose, they are going to get flamed in return. But if they come over here with the same spirit of love shown by the esteemed Mr. Carp, they’re going to do just fine.
