@TruCelt Oh, my God. It is! Thanks for sharing.
Blind Willie McTell by Bob Dylan.
God is in His heaven
And we all want what’s His
But power and greed and corruptible seed
Seem to be all that there is
…And if 1 green bottle should accidentally fall
There’d be 999 trillion 999 billion 999 million 500 thousand four hundred and 39 green bottles hanging on the wall… ![]()
“Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.”
But no, I’m happy with my original choice.
Cue up “Her Majesty” by the Beatles. All 23 seconds of it.
Let’s do this.
mmm
Shit, you’ve already been there for hours.
So Long, It’s Been Good to Know Yuh - Woody Guthrie
I’d want to listen to something comforting in my final moments, so I’ll go with “Life Uncommon” from Jewel.
I’m shocked that this wasn’t the first response. It’s what came to mind first, and I’ ve never even seen the movie.

In that case, I would request “Shri Ramcharitmanas” by Dr. Jagadeesh Pillai, which runs for 138 hours, 41 minutes, and 20 seconds (released April 12, 2023).
A question - is the song only for me, or do I get to demand it is played to the whole prison/witnesses to my execution. Because it makes a difference if I’m trying to comfort/amuse myself before the last walk, or if I’m trying to fuck with those around me/taking joy in my passing.
You can stretch the definition, but it’s easy to be flip if it’s not really happening (see this thread) but my intention was something that would comfort you in the end. Though now that I think about it I, too, might be angry and vindictive if falsely charged.

I like the cut of your jib.

I have a feeling this would backfire. If you choose a selection based on length, it means you are focused on the not dying part. Now you’ve just given yourself 138 hours of final agony.

Jailhouse Rock, as long as there is an awesome choreographed dance involving all the inmates and staff.
One last song before I go? How about Just A Song Before I Go by CSN?
But, I’ll go with All Star by Smash Mouth. A lot of it doesn’t fit, but I would like to be called an All Star.
“To Live is To Fly” - by Townes Van Zandt (the live version he did in Houston).
But really, if I could decide just before, I would pick whatever suits me in the moment. Defiant, Silly, Inside Joke thing, Sad…who knows. Regardless, I’d be totally fine with listening to Townes no matter how I’m feeling.
