Does anyone who shares a bed with someone NOT have agreed upon “sides” where each person sleeps? If you have 2 cars and share a garage (and can actually get both cars into it!), does anyone not habitually park their car on the same side all the time?
Do you have any other “assigned places” in your work. Not just positions you PREFER, but ones that other people respect?
While not hard and fast, my wife and I probably sit at the same 2 seats out of the 6 around our dining room table. I can still tell you which was MY seat in my childhood family of 6, and my family of 5 could each say who sat where when all 5 were at home.
I can recall reasons for sleeping position and garage, but can’t recall the reasons table positions became locked in.
In one bluegrass jam I participate in, folk tend to sit is the same positions, tho it can change depending on who shows up. I generally am stuck in the same corner with my bass.
When I volunteer at the concession stand for some reason I always get the busy register when I do check out, of 6 the one nearest to the Stadium. If I do behind counter I always have the popcorn machine. Never fails.
Not only do we have preferred sides of the bed at home, we use those preferred sides when we’re traveling also. It just doesn’t feel right any other way.
My husband is 6’10", and often sleeps diagonally in our king-size bed. But it’s always the NW-SE diagonal, never the NE-SW one. I can always fit somewhere around him, as well as a cat or two.
We have our own sides of the bed at home, which would be tough to switch what with alarms, chargers, and other devices that we need near at hand. When traveling, though, we always renegotiate. I like to be nearer the bathroom (more likely to get up in the night) and nearer the door; she likes to be nearer the window. So we could be on our non-standard sides in a hotel or a friend’s guest bedroom.
