You're STAYING In India and Pakistan?? What Are You, High?

What the fuck is going on with the people that are still lounging around their homes in India and Pakistan, CONVINCED there’s no nukes about to drop?

Now granted, I will give you that the chances are remote. But Christ in a sidecar, people, when the United States Government starts sending their people and their families home, you gotta think SOMETHING bad has at least the potential to happen. Jesus, I just saw quotes from a couple of these people in the Arizona Republic, and they say (in a nutshell) “Ahh, we’re just gonna ride this out.”

They actually remind me a fair deal of the people on the Florida coast, who armed with a tape gun put huge X’s on their windows and “ride out” the impending hurricane. WHAT THE FUCK IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO CONVINCE YOU PEOPLE THAT SOMETHING BAD COULD HAPPEN??

Um, where are they gonna go? Your house?

Cool, can I come? I’ve always wanted to party with India.

You’re STAYING In India and Pakistan?? What Are You, High?

Hell yeh, all that opium and hash.

Oh God you are dumb

I was gonna come home from Pakistan, but I got high…

You’re staying on the earth? Don’t you know that nuclear winter is going to occur soon?

What, all billion or so of them? Where the hell would a billion extra people lounge around? When they say ‘India’ on the news, they mean the country in Asia with a larger population than the US, not a small town named ‘India’ or some variant which conceivably could evacuate.

What are they supposed to do, take a plane flight to Arizona and stay at your place every time a hurricane hits? It’s not as if hurricanes only hit the coast, and it’s not especially risky to ‘ride out’ a hurricane inside of a house. ‘Oh gosh, all X million people who live in Florida don’t just pack up and move to another state when there’s a hurricane in the area’.

WHAT THE FUCK IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO CONVINCE YOU THAT THE SECOND MOST POPULATED COUNTRY ON THE PLANET CAN’T JUST PACK UP AND CRASH ON SOMEONE ELSE’S COUCH?

Folks within the U.S.Guvmint are following directives and covering their ass (or, collective asses).
They aren’t asking the entire country of India to relocate…they’re directing their message to approx. 60,000 U. S. citizens in that area.

Chastain are you talking about foreign nationals or the actual inhabitants of India and Pakistan?

If you are accusing the citizens of these two countries of being stupid for not leaving, I have one question to ask before I say what I think: How old are you?

If you are talking about foreigners-- maybe they are high. I hear they got some good shit over in that part of Asia.

What is the Arizona Republic? Have any major secessions occurred without my knowledge?

Seems like it’s a newspaper in Phoenix. Kind of an odd name, but whatever floats their boat.

Riboflavin
They are talking about the Americans in the countries, not the natives.
We have a lot of Americans there, who, as always, will sit there and ‘tough it out’ until their home walls melt with nuclear heat or bombs fall in their laps and then they’ll scream for help to get out as the troops go in. No, they will demand help. After all, it is their American right.

We’ve had that happen with every war. In WW2, there was a large British group that stayed in Japan until they got stripped of everything they owned and were tossed into prison camps and some Americans were with them.

Some American Valley girl got stranded in some middle eastern war zone by not leaving on time and wrote about her harrowed escape at the last minute like it was a trip to the mall.

There is always a small group of Americans in some foreign nation that are determined to stay there until the streets get blown out from under them or the soldiers come and lock them up. Then they scream for help from the American government.

It might also help to remember that there have been numerous Pakistani/Indian wars/skirmishes. They’ve been through situations like this before and life has gone on. Although the threat of nuclear weapons is definitely a significant raising of the stakes India is their home and it’s not the first time it, or they, has been threatened.

I remember back during the Gulf War reading about how Israelis were hitting night-clubs harder than usual having “end-of-the-world” parties or some such (you’ll recall Saddam Hussein was launching scuds against Israel like they were golf balls and he was a golf pro). Once you’ve lived with the threat of sudden violence against you for a long enough time you simple assimilate it into your routine. I wouldn’t call the Indians crazy (or high), I’d just call them normal people coping with extraordinary circumstances.

I was sure there was a nuclear test ban, but then I got high…

More data, please?
This intrests me strangely.

I’d even called for the airport van, but then I got high
Now my skin is melting off, and I know why:
Because I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high… :stuck_out_tongue:

Many of these “foreign” people in the subcontinent have businesses, friends and family there. Some will have been established there for years, it is their real home. They’re not all transient expats.

Even if they are, I think there is some courage in staying out of a sense of duty and obligation, to help business there maintain its day to day running, to try to give back to the country the same faith and confidence that they have invested in the foreign visitor in inviting them in the first place.

There are foreign workers in aid and medicine etc whose presence will be even more vital should tensions heighten and conflict increase. There will also be journalists who stay to give the world a window on what is happening there. And there will be people who prefer to leave, and that is their choice.

Thank you for reminding me how high my boyfriend is probably getting with his buddies in Mumbai right now.

Has there been any talk about what cities they would target in said nuclear war? I was happy when The Boy traveled away from the New Delhi area down to Mumbai, but I’m sure if they wanted to take out a sizable chunk of India’s population, they could bomb any major city.
