Yout top 10 favorite hip-hop songs

Black people scare me.

Me too! That’s why I revere them anonymously over the internet and not publicly. My neighbors wouldn’t approve.

Oh, and sorry about the “up yours, nigger”. Here’s a pie I baked as a means of apology. I trust you’ll have the good sense not to mention this to anyone.

Wasn’t Your Fault - Snoop Dogg
Changes - 2 Pac
Shadrach - Beastie Boys
Scenario - A Tribe Called Quest
All Of The Lights (feat Rihanna) - Kanye West
Mama Said Knock You Out - L L Cool J
Shake That (feat Nate Dogg) - Eminem
Release Yo’ Delf [Prodigy Remix] - Method Man
Ten Crack Commandments - The Notorious BIG
Shimmy Shimmy Ya - Old Dirty Bastard

Runner up
Rebel Without A Pause - Public Enemy

I like that song, too. But my favorite by them is Basement.

Man, this thread got me diggin’ in the crates again! I must be getting old. I return to the ‘crates’ more and more often these days.

ETA: Whooooo! msmith537 got me pulling out the classic Johnny Blaze!

You forgot to mention Snow’s “Informer”…Republicans dance to it all the time. Are you a racist or something?

Tuh-Tuh-Tennessee

Actually, I don’t know what hip-hop really is. When this song came out, I loved it, and thought it was hip-hop. I’m sure the definition’s changed over time.

I also heard Snow’s ‘Informer’ for the first time about 3 years ago, loved it, have it on my mp3 player.

So, um…well, that’s two songs I guess I can name.

Wait, wait…I love the Gorillaz, just never thought of Feel Good Inc as being hip-hop. Really?

Oh, I suppose I should also say that I was a big fan of the jazz/hip hop scene in the early 90’s. Lots of really skillful rappers and great loop production and musicianship.

Cantaloop by US3 is a silly little number, but god almighty, it’s still catchy.

I also loved Digable Planets, especially the picture-perfect Blowout Comb

The Art of Easing

I don’t know if I’m alone in this, but I really miss this style of hip hop.

I don’t have a list but if I did Rakim would be heavily featured. For example:

Eric B. & Rakim - Know The Ledge

I was going to mention Cantaloop as well, 'cause I love it, but had no idea if it qualified. Now I’ll have to check out The Art of Easing

Hope you like it. I thought that whole album was utter genius.

9th Wonder (Blackitolism)

Around the Way Girl - LL Cool J
Straight Outta Compton - NWA
Nuttin’ But Love - Heavy D
Get Up Everybody - Salt and Pepa
It’s Funky Enough - The D.O.C.
Tonite - DJ Quik
I Got 5 on It - The Luniz
I Ain’t No Joke - Eric B. and Rakim
Rock Dis Funky Joint - Poor Righteous Teachers
Peter Piper - Run DMC

And I’m very gratified to note that Ladybug Mecca, who I always thought was probably the best female rapper I’d ever heard, is still making music, and it’s good!

Thanks, all  Glad to see some of my collection (Beastie Boys, Outkast, Tribe) made it on to your top 10s.

Man, Dorjän! Your list is perfection. The lists in this thread are so good. So good. I love music.

I am so pissed at Spotify. I had put everyone’s songs into a list at the time of post #33 and was jammin all day on them (but didn’t get all the way through).

Then I noticed on Facebook that they had Spotify seriously tied in to my account, and I did not like that it was saying that all of these new artists (not just hip-hop, anything - like the Decemberists) I had used Spotify to check out were all of a sudden my “favorite” bands.

So I was like “fuck you, get off Facebook, Spotify!” and deleted all the Spotify content, which seems to have deleted my Spotify account and also my playlist!

This has nothing to do with the topic at all, I’m just pissed that I thought I could use a service for checking out music for free (with my hip-hop playlist interrupted by Phish concert commercials) and now it’s gone and fucked everything up.

Grrr. Free services!

Can’t Truss It - Public Enemy
Redrum - Nine
I Got Cha Opin - Black Moon
Can’t Wait - Redman
Come Clean - Jeru the Damaja
Music for Shoplifting - P.O.S.
Player’s Ball - Outkast
Only When I’m Drunk - Alkaholiks
Bucktown - Smif-N-Wessun
Ego Trippin’ (Part Two) - De La Soul

God bless D.J. Premier. God bless your list. God bless hip hop. I am on this thread’s dick so hard.
