Youth sports research help

Help me with hunting down some research
I’m currently on a local minor hockey board and am concerned about the ‘hockey parent’ mentality that is gaining prevalence in the youth (7-10 years) sports community.

I’m looking for studies with youth sports, not hockey specifically.

I want to address the issue of kids playing one sport all year round. I’ve read some papers (I’ve forgotten where) concerning repititive use injuries in youth and would like to hunt something like that down.

I also want to present an argument against the tiered system that our small town is beginning to use. I want to approach it from two angles.

  1. I want to address the psychological development of youth in sports. I believe that playing on teams with varying talented players provides a chance to develop more sportsmanship than on an all star team. But I don’t know where or how to hunt something like this down.

  2. I think actual player development in youth sports benefits from playing with disparate talents. I can give some examples of how this works in hockey player development but I think this can apply to any youth sporting group. I’m looking for studies in tiering at the youth (7-10 years) level.
I’m preparing my presentation but citing some studies and/articles would help my position. At times I come across as a bit out there with my views so if I can show that there are real studies, it may help to show that I’m not crazy.
So, I throw this out to the Dopers. Thanks in advance for responses.

In addition, what are good sites to hit when looking for research papers or academic submissions?

It’s late here so I’m going offline. I’ll pick this up tomorrow.

Can anyone help me find some studies relating to youth sports?

thanks.
