What are some YouTube genres or content creators that you watch when you need cheering up?
Genres:
Animal reunions with humans or other animals.
Family reunions with humans.
First time "blank"ing. Where blank is “hear”,“see”,“see in color” etc.
Animals being rescued. Think “The Dodo.”
Content Creators:
Caught in Providence. Real life cases of a traffic court in Providence RI. The judge is compassionate and funny.
I need more in this category.
I put YouTube in the title but the content doesn’t have to come from them. Instagram, Tik Tok, etc would be allowed as well.
I recently discovered “Mini Musicals” and I think they are all very fun! This is one from creator Brandon Ethridge. There are other YouTubers who do the same thing but I can’t find any now that Ethridge has given his a name, and that’s the only name I can recall. But they are very creative and funny!
Incidentally, I originally became aware of the SAVEAFOX rescue YT channel when someone else posted this video in a similar ‘share YT videos’ thread a year or two back. Totes adorables. I had no idea foxes were so cute and dog-like before I saw this video:
This might seem weird, but I like to watch Black people watch Bill Burr’s standup. Standup comedy is always better when you’re not watching it by yourself, and this makes it seem like you’re watching it with a couple of friends who have no idea what they’re about to see, which is always fun.
Look up idressitalian, they make TikTok’s, but I think also on Utube. I’ve just recently become addicted, after managing some very stressful days.
It’s beautiful gardens, and streets, with lovely music. A stroll through a pretty Mediterranean village, a wander through the back stone lanes, then a turn, and a glance of the beautiful Italian countryside. Winding down at the waters edge. It’s all beautifully captured and paced.
(Seriously, it’s like drug to me now. SecretPositano was my fave, but then a garden one overtook it.)
I’m a long time dachshund owner, so my most frequently watched youtube channels are Crusoe the Celebrity dachshund (I love the BatDog one and Oakley’s Home Alone tribute), Doxie Din and Puppy Jay, and Moonpie Starbox (with Moonpie and Buttercup).
This is just a one off, but it meets your criterion for “Animal reunions with humans or other animals.” and is heartwarming, (briefly) frightening, and very weird. (The cut-glass accented commentary is pretty annoying, but stick with it.)
You need the backstory to make sense of this. Fortunately, the story has its own wiki page. Two Australians living in London - ah - acquired a lion, and decided that raising it in central London was a good idea.
Rendall and Bourke, along with their friends Jennifer Mary Taylor and Unity Jones, cared for the lion where they lived in London until he was a year old. As he got larger, the men moved Christian to their furniture store—coincidentally named Sophistocat—where living quarters in the basement were set aside for him. Rendall and Bourke obtained permission from a local minister to exercise Christian at the Moravian church graveyard just off the King’s Road and Milman’s Street, SW10; and the men also took the lion on day trips to the seaside.[citation needed]
Christian’s growing size and the increasing cost of his care led Rendall and Bourke to understand they could not keep him in London. When Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna, stars of the film Born Free, visited Rendall and Bourke’s furniture store and met Christian, they suggested that Bourke and Rendall ask the assistance of George Adamson. Adamson, a British conservationist and advocate for lions in Kenya, who together with his wife Joy raised and released Elsa the lioness, agreed to reintegrate Christian into the wild at their compound in the Kora National Reserve.
The reunion takes place in the reserve a year later, after Christian’s successful integration into the wild.
Agreed…that channel was a real balm for my spirit during some of the lockdowns.
Also in a musical vein, this is a video that I don’t remember how or why I found it, but just inexplicably makes me happy. A group of Irish dancers collaborating with a group of clog dancers. The moment after the break where the two groups join forces is just a huge swoop of joy for me.
Another one in the Celtic spirit is the TG Lurgan channel. That’s an Irish language music project with young people performing pop hits translated into Gaelige. Can’t speak a word of it myself, but to my ears it’s a beautiful language, and the videos are a wonderful rabbit hole to fall down. Here’s one of my faves, just follow the channel:
Taskmaster is a crying belly laugh every time. I’m so grateful that I found it during lockdown. I was careful not to binge it, but doled them out to myself carefully, on the really bad days.
