You've been BANNED

I just tried to post something about 3 minutes ago and I was taken to an error page, saying that the administrator has banned my IP address. Whats goin’ on? It’s fine now, but it kinda freaked me out.

A bug in vB.

For about five minutes there it banned EVERYBODY.

It’s fixed now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank God! (And TubaDiva.) Here I was hopping over to see if I could post if I disconnected and reconnected (on the hope I’d get assigned a different IP number). You can ignore my email, Tuba.

Of course, now you all have been cheated out of the most brilliant post ever written, because I didn’t bother to save it.

Ignore mine, too. It sounds like you might be getting quite a few.

I have this mental image of concrete getting out a new sock during this period, and discovering it was banned before it ever posted anything.

Somehow MisterEcks, that makes it all worth while. Thanks for that image!

OK ignore the email from the LIONsob and I too then.

Testing… just making sure I’m still not banned…

I have a mental image that Concrete has a mental image of you getting a mental image that you were banned.

That would cheer me up. As one of the banned-in-error crowd, I love the thought of what you bluenoses would do in that case.

First, concrete was certainly not banned in error. Second, having been there myself, and being a “bluenose” (I guess, it’s not a term I’ve ever heard before, so I have no idea if I qualify), I think I can answer as to what an appropriate response would be.

OK, I got an email one day (Cinco de Mayo, as a matter of fact) saying that I was banned for also using the user name FlatULance, who was some moron troll that put my email address into his profile. Here is my response to Tuba:

See, pretty reasonable. Within about ten minutes, my posting privileges were restored. So don’t use being banned in error as an excuse for having a personal vendetta against the SDMB. Is this what your mental image of a “bluenose” being accidentally banned were, or is the truth not as exciting as your paranoid imagination.

I’m sure I’d object to that characterization, if I knew what it was. (I assume you don’t mean “sexual prude,” which is the only way I’ve seen “bluenose” used.)

I seem to recall you were also one of the left-in-a-huff crowd. What happened, nobody cared so you came back?

Oh, I guess he couldn’t have been referring to me. I am quite the afficionado of soft-core pornography (you know, Cinemax at about 2AM type stuff). Then again, he said it about MysterEcks, who seems to be equally unfit for thee label. That’s got to be one of the least appropriate accusations made against the regulars here.

Maybe he meant it in the USN sense of the word.

-OK, who here has traveled north of the arctic circle on a naval vessel?

I’m not sure if MysterEcks is the Novascotian kind, but he certainly is the easily offended person kind.

I love it!

I found out exactly how it affected the ______'s. (bluenoses? maybe you’re thinking of brownnoses…Let’s just say the blankety-blanks)

There are more reactions here (unfortunately most of those feeling “on the hotseat” aren’t troll-obsessed.)

I don’t suffer twits gladly, if that’s what you mean. Whatsamatter, are you still pissed that I didn’t suffer yougladly in that one thread?

Mu Mu: see my above comment on twits.

No. Never left. My friends were pissed, but they post now and then too. Our 1-hour problem was the board mods couldn’t imagine two couples sharing a couple of computers.
They have a way of saying “no need to tell us if you share a computer with others”, then ban you when you don’t, then are shocked when people get taken aback, like **Danielinthewolvesden **and Kat there above, who sent testy emails.

If you think you wouldn’t, then you must not care about the board very much.

Speaking of twits, have you noticed the odd correlation between twits and posters who’s sigs mention a reason for their user name? Like they’re trying to convince us that they’re not sock puppets before anyone’s accused them. Just one of those things that makes you go “hmmm”.
