"Zero Hour!" on TCM Saturday 8/27 at 6 am ET

If you’ve never seen the movie that Airplane! is based on, like me, you’ve got a chance to catch it this weekend.

Off to set my DVR …

Surely you can’t be serious

I saw a double feature in the past year or so, impossible to watch Zero Hour without the Airplane! version intruding.

After you watch it, you should check this out. Somebody put together a 7-minute edit of the two movies… it’s amazing how many similarities there are.

Also, is it just me, or does that stewardess really look like Judy Garland?

That’s because the script from Zero Hour provided the bulk of the script for Airplane!.

Um, yes, I know. I wasn’t trying to say it was a coincidence. I was saying it’s amazing how they were able to take pretty much the same script and make it one of the most hilarious movies ever.

I’m positive he’s serious. And stop calling him Shirley.

In Grade 10, we had to study the (tele)play “Flight Into Danger” (the precursor to “Zero Hour” and “Airplane”); it was in our English textbook (Themes in Literature, according to my Google search). I’m not sure what that was supposed to teach us, other than how to suppress sniggering noises.

I just want to tell you good luck. We’re all counting on you.

I set the alarm clock to wake me up early so I could watch it. I also had my daughter program it into the DVR so when I get home next month I can rent Airplane! and we can watch both of them back-to-back.

BTW, I had not known that the original story was written by Arthur “Airport” Hailey…
