Zombies! Zombies?

And no, I’m not talking about the 60’s group.

I have recently become a HUGE fan of zombie movies.

Recommend me some good zombie flix, preferabbly Netflicksable.

Also, a discussion about what makes for a good Zombie movie, and why zombies are so appealing would be great!

If you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend Shaun of the Dead. It’s a hilarious British send up of movies about zom-- erp! we’re not using the zed word.

I don’t think Netflix has it, but keep your eye out for Cemetery Man (Dellamorte Dellamore). It’s awesome.

I liked the recent “Dawn Of The Dead” remake a lot, but others thought it was a pale imitation of the original.

Land of the Dead is great. From my perspective it’s also got the best ending of any Zombie movie, ever.

The Australian acted main character escapes to Canada. As an Australian/Canadian I can dig it!

I thought Land of the Dead was good, but not as good as the Dawn of the Dead remake. Land of the Dead wasn’t about the zombies enough, and the human part of the plot had been done a thousand times in other movies.

I liked 28 Days Later and Night of the Creeps.

Although dated (1962), * Carnival of Souls* is worth watching.

Just watched Dead & Breakfast a while ago. Hilarious flick.

ANd I also recently enjoyed Undead.

Both of those are in the humourous vein.

For far, far too much information on Zombie movies, check out this .

I’ll second Shaun of the Dead. I think it is the best zombie movie. Next I would rent 28 Days Later and the remake of Dawn of the Dead.

The Romero zombie movies are decent. Night of the Living Dead is the best. Land of the Dead was disappointing.

Shudder. Whatever those things were, they weren’t zombies. Zombies can’t play washtub bass. It’s a rule.

As Others have said, Shaun of the Dead is a must, as is “Night of the Living Dead”. I personally think Dawn of the Dead remake is pretty good too, but not everyone agrees with that(too which I say “BRAINS!”).

I’m kind of partial to Resident Evil(avoid the sequel like the plague though) and 28 days later, though wether 28 days later is actually a zombie movie is debatable, considering the “zombies” are still alive.

Oh, and nobody’s mentioned “Re-animator” or “Bride of Reanimator”, which are both Cheesy but fun.

I’ve seen the Dawn remake, and Shaun, and the Romero films. I liked Land of the Dead, though as many others noted in the thread about that particular film, I wish they had gone into more detail on the world post ZA (Zombie Apocalypse).

I’m also looking for books and such. I’ve got a few written down for the wife on Amazon… Heheheh…

I think part of what makes Zombie movies fun is the “What if…?” discussions my friends and I have afterwards.

I’ll be adding a bunch of the movies mentioned here to the Netflix list, and looking for those that aren’t on the list…

If you’re going to blow a weekend on this, I’d recommend watching Shaun of the Dead last. It’s a better-quality movie than most zombie flicks, it’ll take the edge off, and the jokes will make more sense if you’ve seen the source material first.

Return of the Living Dead - the first zombie comedy and the film that brought us “BRAAAAIIIIINNNNNnnnzzzz!!!”

I remember Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things as being ejoyable late-show cheese from the pre-infomercial days. The title is the best part, of course.

28 Days Later is not a zombie movie and has a rubbish ending (whichever ending you watch in the special features, the bit before it all is too much really) The remake of Dawn of the Dead similarly has a rubbish ending, all a bit too standard-Hollywood-twist-in-the-end. In fact, the remakes of the Dead films are all a bit lame.

Shaun of the Dead is great and indeed best enjoyed after seeing a few other Zombie movies first. Its not a parody in the way that Airplane is a spoof of the Airport movies, more of an affectionate homage.

Dead Alive aka Braindead, a modern classic. “You’re mother ate my dog!”

I found it sufficiently zombish, though I didn’t like the ending, either.
I suppose the Resident Evil movies qualify as well.

Well, yeah, but didn’t Romero pretty much invent the genre?

The modern zombie movie, sure. He’s also in his sixties and has had to constantly struggle to get movies made. I was glad enough to see him make another flick that I was able to give “Land of the Dead” a little slack.

While not a great movie and wee bit predictable, I still enjoyed the heck out of it. And how can you know like a zombie movie with Asia Argento in it.
