Zombipocalypse test- with poll!

Well, it is all just a theoretical exercise, I probably would help to person in the car too in reality.

It’s easy when they aren’t real people, like in this test.

72%.

I will revive this thread in a couple of years and see if I do better.

Regards,
Shodan

Surprisingly, I scored 93%.

I chose the gun. From experience, I figured prolonged use of the chainsaw would cause fatigue, causing me more likely to make errors and either harm myself with it or be less alert.

(Of course my experience with chainsaws has involved cutting wood, not something that actually causes the fight or flight reflex to cut in so I might do better with it if actually facing something scary).

73.165%

Which makes me wonder about the accuracy of the test, 'cause I suspect my real survival odds in a similar situation would be at “flip a coin” levels.

I got 85% being honest and 96% by trying to choose the “correct” answer. I chose the pipe. The question specifically says

Are you really going to trust a stranger’s rusty old chainsaw or rusty old rifle? It’s difficult for a metal pipe to malfunction.

72%, and yeah…I thought about distracting the zombies and decided, screw the person in the car. I don’t know them. How did they manage to get trapped? Probably were distracted, right? They could have been texting while driving and I’m not risking my life for someone like that :wink:
I picked the gun. The last thing you want is to be close to the zombies, since infection is passed through bites, so being close enough to use a chainsaw or pipe seems dumb. The gun gives you a way to attack them at a distance, and even if it doesn’t work, there’s that much more space between you and it when you need to try to get away.

In the basement scenario my first thought was to take the rifle because the butt might make a better bludgeon than a pipe of unspecified length and OD. (“long” it says. That could be 8 ft. x 5/8")
Plus you could pocket the bullets for later use when you have time to test the weapon and when silence is less important.

I lost some respect for the pollsters when using the rifle as a bludgeon wasn’t offered as an option.

62 %. I think it was mostly because I live in apartment in an urban area and do not have any weapons.

Christ, My front door is made of glass!!!

71.1

Another fat lardbutt weighing in, but if I can make it thru the first month, I’d become a lean, mean, zombie killing machine.

84%, I lost a few points for not following Rule 1 of Zombieland (Cardio!), yes I’m a tad out of shape (hey, round is a shape, right?) but that can be fixed

as far as the Scenarios presented go;

Basement scenario;
Take the pipe, it’s silent, needs no reloading and can keep Zacks out of grabbing range, downside is impact damage is limited to the wielder’s strength

Chainsaw? nope, too noisy, exhaust is toxic (2-stroke smoke has a large component of burning oil), if the saw has been sitting for a while, it might be difficult to get it started, engine vibrations and weight of the saw will cause increased fatigue, short runtime between refueling, not to mention potential contamination from zombie fluids

Rifle; age aside, as long as the ammo was stored correctly, it should work, however, if the scenario is one box of old ammo, that box could contain anywhere between 20 to 50 rounds, depending on if it’s hunting ammo or practice ammo, after ammo has been used up, you’re left with a large, unwieldly, unbalanced club

another couple factors with the hunting rifle scenario, if the rifle is scoped, most scopes are calibrated for maximum accuracy at 50 or 100 yards, most basements are significantly smaller, the scope will not hit where the crosshairs are aimed, and what about the muzzle flash and report from the rifle, hunting rifles tend to be loud, if you’re not using hearing protection, you could suffer permanent hearing damage, not a good thing when you’re listening for the sound of approaching Zacks

Overturned car with trapped passenger;
Sorry, passenger, its a survival situation, and trying to rescue you would put me at risk, and if I was able to rescue you, you’d be an additional drain on my supplies…

47 followed by a lot of decimal points. Almost 48%. Which, to be honest, is higher than I thought I’d get. I’m not exactly horror-movie-survivor material.

Yeah - you have to go with the pipe. It’s silent, you’re already in close quarters, there is zero chance of malfunction, there’s no fumbling for ammo, etc. It’s basic Zombie Apocalypse 101.

77 point something or other.

Had to go with the gun myself. My chainsaw is an ungodly pain in the ass to get started, so odds are the zombies would get to me first.

Your chances of surviving the Zombie Apocalypse: 89%

I’ll be in my bunk(er).

81.42%. That’s what 12+ years of military experience gets ya - A decent chance at survival. Freakin’ civilians don’t know jack.

I chose the rifle. It’s point and shoot technology. Simple. Even a kid can do it. Operate a chainsaw? A tad more difficult and needs endurance to fight off a zombie mob. Pipe? Please. Just wait for death if you’re willing to let them get that close. And again with the endurance issue.

The person in the car? Tough luck, bub. If I can get a clear shot I *might *put a bullet in your head to save you the agony, but if you’re dumb enough to try to take shelter in a parked car with no keys then you’re only good for zombait if I were to rescue you.

And yes, I do have a “when the shit hits the fan” zombie bag packed. Why do you need to ask?

Just over 63%. Better than even odds!

I chose the pipe. I’ve never handled either a gun or a chainsaw, and something tells me that it might behoove me not to experiment with the unknown in a basement with multiple zombies heading my way. What if the chainsaw stalls? What if the gun jams or I run out of ammunition? What if the noise of either attracts more zombies? A good point was made on the previous page about the noise of a gun in a close room hurting your hearing. Depending on how many shamble down those steps, I’ll try to incapacitate all or most, enough to bolt up the steps and close the door on them.

Person in the car? I’ll try to distract the zombies while putting myself as little in harm’s way as possible. I don’t know anything about the person/people in there, including whether they’re already infected, but if I can give them a chance without hurting my own chance of surviving, I’ll try.

OK everyone can stand around me, I only have a 59% chance of survival. That’s probably due to my need of medication. Can I be in a slasher flick instead?

Your chances of surviving the Zombie Apocalypse: %85.3211009174312!

I said chainsaw but ----- I would for sure snag the pipe up on my way to it. Swings to the head - like it says in the Epistle of St George “Kill the brain and you kill the ghoul”.

76.6. I went with the gun. A chainsaw would make an unwieldy weapon, they’re heavy and kind of awkward and you’re going to have to keep the chain at least at neck height the entire time if you want to kill the zombie. Hitting its body or arms isn’t even going to slow it down. You either have to take the head off or grind into the skull and I don’t think a real life chainsaw cuts through bone as fast as a movie or video game chainsaw. I don’t think you could kill fast enough to keep from being overwhelmed.

Besides that, if worse comes to worst I can put the last bullet in my own head, I’m not sure I could chainsaw myself to death.

I got 74.5412844036697%. I chose the pipe.

I don’t. I truly believe these will be the correct percentages of our survival should a zombie apocalypse happen.
