Yup, so I’ve got both Windows 98 and Windows 2000 running on my computer. This is fantastic, most everything works, etc.
But I’m having some problems with ZoneAlarm. Under Windows 2000, everything works just fine. Under Windows 98, ZoneAlarm won’t allow anything except AOL to access the internet (not Outlook Express, or AIM, or ICQ). Anybody had a problem like this? Anybody know how to get around it?
For what it’s worth, I’m using the latest versions of all these pieces of software (ICQ 2000b, Outlook Express 5, AIM 4.7, AOL 6.0, Internet Explorer 5.5).
Does it even recognize that they are trying to connect? Does it ask you if such-and-such a program should be allowed to connect?
Open zone alarm and click on programs. Are the programs you want to use listed there? Is there a checkmark in the ‘allow connect’ column after them?
Yeah, it does recognize that they’re trying to connect. And when I say “yes” and “remember my answer”, it does remember that they’re supposed to be allowed to connect.
And I just remembered that I had this same problem when running ZoneAlarm under Windows 2000 with AOL 5.0. That’s not particularly relevant, but I thought I’d share.
I had this problem with ZoneAlarm too and I’m running Windows 95. I reinstalled ZoneAlarm and it was OK after that. Had one day where it went feral and wouldn’t let anything past the lock but then things settled down.
I have no idea why though.
Reinstall it, huh? Guess I’ll try that. And thanks to both of you for your advice.
Happened to me, I reinstalled and it was all fine.
Did you shut down your computor by hitting reset ? This buggered up zonelarm for me once.
