Zoolander...oh NOOOOOOO

This movie is probably going to be funny, but I think it’s also going to flop at the box office. I’m hoping that this, combined with some major butt kissing by Chris Carter, will convince David Duchovny that maybe leaving the X-files to work on his movie career(two funny flops in a row) could be postponed another season. But I’m delusional, so…

I saw it today and was a little wary of it being too low-brow in its humor. However, I think it was done very well and those worries were unfounded. And besides, it has David Bowie officiating a “walk-off,” and the explanation of the origin of the piano key tie.

And it had a preview for a movie by the people who brough you Rushmore (and no, I don’t remember the name of it- something about Tanenbaums or something like that), so it was a well-spent afternoon.

I’m so looking forward to that movie. I’m a huge fan of Rushmore. Bill Murray is one of my all time favorites.

Amen! Amen! Hallelujah! Amen!

People cite this guy as being the reason they like current SNL. And as being one of the modern geniuses of comedic talent!

Hellloooo? Don’t you have to be funny to be considered a comedian?

I’ve seen Milla Jovovich’s character, from stills on the Web.

She’s a good reason to go! :o

The Royal Tenenbaums. T bless the IMDb.

Whoa, why the hate against Farrell? Am I the only one here who thinks he’s cool?

He cracked me up as George Bush. And the male piano playing character that sings in front of groups with his wife. He plays the male cheerleader, that’s pretty funny. Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Ben Stiller is very funny, but the actor that makes me want to go see it is Owen Wilson. He co-wrote Rushmore with Wes Anderson and they also co-wrote another movie that, IMO, rivals Rushmore. That movie is Bottle Rocket, one of the best comedic movies ever; I highly recommend it.

I think Will Ferrell is funny too, I like seeing him on Dave or Conan, and he’s one of the few reasons I’ll watch SNL.

[aside]Does it seem like SNL is catering towards the teeny-bopper audience more these days?[/aside]

I laugh very easily, even at some dumb things, but the trailers for Zoolander didn’t even make me crack a smile. Instead, I’m curious, why the hell does he spell “day” d-a-i-y-e? Is he just misspelling it? Is it a reference to something? Even a friend of mine who watches Friends (bleh) said, “That’s not funny.”

I saw this movie a couple of weeks ago at a preview screening. (It still had the models at the gas station catching on fire and running around before sensitivity to the WTC changed this scene.)

Pretty funny stuff.

Then the commecials came out. I think everyone I know who has seen this admits that these are some of the mostpoorly edited commercials for a movie out there. All of the jokes are out of context (especially the bulemia one which has a great build-up in the movie as well as the d-a-i-y-e joke). Blegh. When did trained chimps start editing movie trailers?

Amen to Dignan’s take on Bottle Rocket - Owen Wilson never fails to crack me up.

No, Zoolander isn’t a great movie. But I must have needed to laugh because I couldn’t stop during most of the scenes.

Oh and I just saw on imdb that Andy Dick played the masseuse??? I wish I’d known…

I would have paid to see the Heiniken commercial, it’s deadgum hilarious! Hope the whole movie is as good… he owes me after “Meet the Parents”.

Lieu - You didn’t like Meet the Parents? Oi, then stay miles away from this one. It’s not that good, at least IMHO. All the funny bits are in the previews. I was sadly disappointed. And I like both actors, tons. Nutz.

Saw it. Dumb humor. Go see it with friends after a few beers. Keep your eye out for David Duchovny’s conspiracy theorist, 2001 and Godfather inside jokes, and Marcia Brady. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Marcia Brady…

Less reliance on painful-humor than Meet the Parents, less bathroom-humor than Dumb and Dumber. It is typical Ben Stiller. The whole irony of Ben Stiller as a super male model and Jerry Stiller as his agent still makes me laff.
