Meta’s take on Twitter now sees triple the daily downloads of X (formerly Twitter) on iOS globally, and more than double the number — and sometimes more than triple — the number of installs on Google Play.
Well I still see citations to Twitter in a lot of places–but none to Threads.
Xitter has a huge installed base. It doesn’t need fresh downloads. Threads has a comparatively tiny installed base and needs massive numbers of downloads to build momentum at a quick enough pace to succeed.
I see a substantial number of links to X/Twitter–but I just don’t see links to Threads.
According to new data from market intelligence provider Similarweb. In June 2025, Threads’ mobile app for iOS and Android saw 115.1 million daily active users, representing 127.8% year-over-year growth; X reached 132 million daily actives, as its year-over-year growth declined by 15.2%.
So Threads should pass X/Twitter well before the end of the year.
I really like Threads! I’m on there over half my time spent scrolling my phone.
