I have done it. Today was the start of a choke-free MissTake.
Well, not completely, just started Zyban.
I just could not smoke anymore. Hated the smell, the taste, the coughing.
I have smoked for 20 years (and I am 33. Pretty bad, hunh?) and this is huge for me.
My question to all other ex-chokers- if you used Zyban, how did it go? Are the mood swings as horrific as I have heard they can be? Does it work?
I used Zyban to quit smoking. The first time, I started again after six weeks, due to various things: smoker MIL living with us, being surrounded by smoker co-workers, and the fact that I didn’t quit because I wanted to, but because my SO was a non-smoker. The second time around, it appears, was the charm. I quit on February 7, 2000.
I had wonky dreams and mood swings, but I can breathe and hopefully will be around a lot longer for my family. Good luck to you!
Oh I’m soooo HAPPY for you!! I quit smoking May 15th (haven’t had one since) and I was 2 packs a day for over 20 years. Zyban did it for me. If you follow the directions exactly it will work! The best thing (which will sound obvious to some, but trust me it’s not…) is to NEVER have cigarettes in your possesion. It makes everything so much easier. This month I celebrated 9 months away from those nasty cancer sticks and I’m so happy! I had some weak moments, but they go away as fast as they come on. Just take a deep cleansing breath and ride it out!!
You made the first step…just keep strutting your stuff!!
Whoamydawg-
This shit is making me higher than a freaking kite!
According to a coworker my mouth is moving a mile a minute (actually, she asked me if I ever thought about being an auctioneer :dubious:).
It shouldn’t. Gotta get those nasty toxins out of you. A mile a minute is the norm for my mouth, so that I didn’t notice. Take something for your headache, you’ll be fine.
I haven’t decided to use it yet - it’s something that doc and I are talking about, but I’m still struggling with.
My fear is that I would go back to smoking and that I’d then feel like I’d “tried everything”.
But I’ll watch this thread adn see how ya do! Good luck and congrats!
Lsura, are you sure you’re ready to quit? Please believe that everyone has that question of “will this work for me” in the back of their mind. You weren’t born with a cigarette hanging out of your mouth, so you CAN live without it.
We all have the “what if” fears, but you’ll never know unless you at least try. Consider this, with all the advancements in aids to quit smoking, products are only going to get better & better. So if this doesn’t work, chances are that something down the road will. But will you even be around to try something new?
I was told by my Doctor that I was 60% on my way to a stroke! I’m only 40 and I’m sure that seems ancient to some of you, but it’s not. You and your Doctor can discuss its’ pros and cons till the cows come home. But the bottom line is that you have to do someting about it, right?
Well, Tygr, I suppose we could also talk about the Sybian. Would be a very interesting dichotomy, wouldn’t it, as some consider the act of smoking very sensual, and I will be the first to say that when I am (for one reason or another) kept away from my ciggies for an extended amount of time, that first one does cause an almost orgasmic reaction.
FWIW: Day two. Still one pill/day. Don’t graduate to two/day until Sunday. Not much of a buzz received. Bummer. But I have the munchies anyways. And a dull headache.
I just started Zyban 4 days ago. I’ve quit smoking many times in the past somewhat easily, but maybe it’s old age creeping up that makes me weak. Just couldn’t do it on sheer willpower anymore. The only thing I have noticed so far is that I feel slightly less grumpy and almost joyful. No side effects so far. Wednesday is the younosmokenomore day. We’ll see how it goes.
Zyban is a good aide, and will help you quit if you really want to.
Smokin’ is a tough one, and there’s no magic bullet.
I quit after many years of smoking by using Zyban and Nicorette gum. I didn’t have any side effects. Some people complain of weird dreams and sleep loss with Zyban. If this happens, cutting back to one pill per day seems to still work, without the side effects.
No personal experience, but my cousin used Zyban a few years
ago after smoking for about 30 years. She told me she was on it for less than a month and hasn’t smoked since…she stopped using it because of the side effects, but was on it long enough to do the trick.
